About 12th Annual Brigantine Open Water Swim
Green Whales, Inc. and Greenheads Swimming, along with the Brigantine Beach Patrol, bring you the 12th Annual Brigantine Open Water Swim for ages 7 and over. This year's events are:
- 400M: Ages 7 - 14
- 2K: Ages 11 & Over
- 5K: Ages 12 & Over
This is an open water swim; the current and wave conditions are unpredictable. Please use good judgment if you are uncertain about swimming in rough water.
The course is set; however, the race committee reserves the right to change the direction of each event due to water conditions. The details of each event with landmarks are provided in the race map(s). Any questions about the course will be addressed at the pre-race meeting by the Race Referee.

AWARDS & PRIZES
Awards will be given to the 1st place overall male and female finishers* per event. Overall winners do not qualify for age group awards.
400M: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placed male and female place finishers* in the following age groups:
- 10 & Under
- 11-12
- 13-14
2K: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd male and female place finishers* in the following age groups:
- 11-12
- 13-14
- 15-29
- 30-49
- 50-59
- 60-69
- 70+
5K: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd male and female place finishers* in the following age groups:
- 14-16
- 17-29
- 30-49
- 50-59
- 60-69
- 70+
* Athletes are permitted to wear wetsuits however they will not be eligible for awards.
CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY
In the event, Green Whales, Inc. needs to cancel this event due to severe weather all participants will be given a % off coupon for next year's race.
In the event, that a participant needs to cancel there is no refund.

LOCATION
All races will start and finish at the Brigantine City Dock 2603 Bayshore Avenue, Brigantine, NJ 08203.
PARKING
There is very limited parking at the Brigantine City Dock. On street parking is available in the area.
400M SWIM
This is a 400M swim for Swimmers ages 7 – 14. The 400M swim will have one turn. Athletes will start in the water at 26th St S swimming north 200M, turning around just past the personal dock at 2401 Bayshore. Then swim the same route south to a beach finish at 26th St S.

2K SWIM
This is a 2K for ages 11 & Over. The 2K will have one turn. Athletes will start in the water at 26th St S swimming north 1K to 15th St. S, and swimming the same route back for a beach finish at 26th St S.

5K SWIM
This is a 5K for ages 12 & Over. Athletes will start in the water at 26th St S swimming north to 13th St. S. The athletes will turn around and swim south back to the starting area at the Brigantine Bay Dock. The athletes will complete another lap of the same route, then make their final turn to finish by running onto the beach.

ENTRIES & ELIGIBILITY
400M Swim
The 400M swim is available to athletes 7 to 14 years of age.
2K Swim
The 2K swim is available to athletes 11 years of age and over.
5K Swim
The 5K swim is available to athletes 12 years of age and over.
WAVES
The race committee reserves the right to break any event into waves based on the number of swimmers registered for the event.

When does the entry fee price change?
Prices for each race increase by $5.00 May 4th at 11:59pm. Onsite registration is an additional $10.00.
What's included in the registration fee for participants?
The registration fee includes entrance to the event, a cap, commemorative medal (while supplies last), & award (if qualified).
What are the age limits of each event?
- 400M: 7 - 14
- 2K: 11 & Over
- 5K: 12 & Over
If I wear a wetsuit, am I eligible for awards/prizes?
No. Any individual wearing a wetsuit will not be eligible for awards/prizes. A wetsuit is defined as either a full or partial wetsuit (i.e. neoprene or similar shirt and/or shorts).
What will the temperature of the water be during the swim?
The water temperature is predicted to be 70°F - 79°F. Actual water temperatures will be posted on our social media pages in days leading up to the event so be sure to follow us on Facebook @Green Whales Racing & @ Brigantine Open Water Swim
Is wearing a swim cap required?
Yes, each participant will be provided a cap to wear during the race. This helps with safety of the event to ensure every participant can be seen.
During the race, what kind of support is available to me as a swimmer?
The Brigantine Beach Patrol will be patrolling the waters along the course as well as on standby.
What is Green Whales, Inc.?
Green Whales, Inc., is a NJ Non Profit 501(c)(3) that encompasses all that we do for the swim community! Green Whales Inc. funds Whelan’s Whales, the Greenheads Swimming age group swim team, and Stanley's Special Friends, a program for special needs children. All proceeds from the 11th Annual Brigantine Open Water Swim will benefit Green Whales, Inc.

RACE RULES
WARMUPS
Athletes are permitted to warmup for the event provided a lifeguard is on duty at the Brigantine City Dock and they do not interfere with the setup of the event. Once the event has started, no warmups will be allowed.
Reminder that all athletes are required to attend the Pre-Race Meeting. Please plan warmups accordingly.
PRE-RACE MEETINGS
All participants must attend the pre-race meeting that is held 10 minutes prior to the start of the event. It will be held on the dock just before the athletes enter the water. It is highly recommend that athletes have all gear with them during this meeting.
CAPS
Caps will be provided at check-in and must be worn by all participants.
MARKINGS
All swimmers will be marked as follows by the Race Personnel with their Competition Number: Vertically down each arm, horizontally across each shoulder, and horizontally across each hand.
Any swimmer wearing a wetsuit will be marked: Horizontally across each hand and vertically down the top of each foot.
WETSUIT POLICY
A wetsuit is defined as either a full or partial wetsuit (i.e. neoprene or similar shirt and/or shorts). If a participant would like to wear a wetsuit during the race, the individual must inform the Race Director during check-in. Any individual wearing a wetsuit will not be eligible for awards/prizes.
SEVERE WEATHER PLAN
If weather conditions during the race are such that the Race Director, Race Referee, Host Team Representative, Head of Beach Patrol/Lifeguards determine that the event should be abandoned, an air horn will be used to signal cancellation and each safety boat will be radioed the cancellation decision.
Lifeguards, volunteers, and crafts/boats will then round up the swimmers and head them to shore or pick them up and bring them to shore. No course buoys will be picked up until all athletes have safely reached the shore.
In the pre-race meeting athletes will be instructed to look for the nearest safety personnel when they hear the abandonment signal. The abandonment signal is five short blasts followed by one prolonged blast of air horns or whistles. This signal will be repeated every minute until the course is cleared of all athletes.
LOCAL MEDICAL FACILITY
The local hospital, AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center – City Division, is located 5 miles and 11 minutes away from the event.
FINISH LINE
All events will have a beach finish. All athletes will swim their course and finish by running up on the beach through the finish line.
