About 2026 Scenic Mountain Triathlon
THE ENTIRE RACE IS HELD IN THE MONONGAHELA NATIONAL FOREST (UNDER SPECIAL USE PERMIT). THE RACE STARTS WITH A .5 MILE SWIM IN SUMMIT LAKE, FOLLOWED BY A 17.1 MILE BIKE RIDE OVER KENNISON MOUNTAIN (ELEVATION OF 3,988 FEET) TO THE CRANBERRY MOUNTAIN NATURE CENTER. THE RACE CONCLUDES WITH A 6.2 MILE RUN DOWN TO THE CRANBERRY GLADES AND BACK TO THE CRANBERRY MOUNTAIN NATURE CENTER TO THE FINISH LINE. IT IS THE WV STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND OLYMPIC QUALIFYING EVENT.
Shirts are only guaranteed if you are registered by June 30th. After this time, all extras will go as first-come, first-served!

Pre-Registered Non-USAT member - $90 ($75 entry fee plus $15 USAT One-Day Pass)
Late Registered USAT member $95
Late Registered Non-USAT member - $110 ($95 entry fee plus $15 USAT One-Day Pass)
Team Rates:
Pre-Registered Team - $135
(Each person on the team will need to provide a USAT Member Number or Pay $15 for the One-Day Pass.)

Race Orientation: 9:30 AM at Summit Lake.
Everyone must attend.

6.2 miles from Nature Center to locked gate below Cranberry Glades and back (rolling terrain with varying surface)
Swim Section
0.5 mile in Summit Lake (cool water temperature). The temperature range over the last few years has been 68-72 degrees.
HOW TO REGISTER
INDIVIDUAL Participants - Simply select the individual option under Event Selection. All participants must be a USAT member. If you are already a USAT Member you will simply enter that information in during registration. Otherwise you will need to pay for a one day membership ($15).
RELAY Participants - ONE Person will register and create the group/pay for the group. The other members will then register and select that group (no fee involved). All participants must be a USAT member. If you are already a USAT Member you will simply enter that information in during registration. Otherwise you will need to pay for a one day membership ($15).

Bike Section
17.1 miles from Summit Lake to Cranberry Mountain Nature Center on State Route 39/55 (hard surface with hills)
The bike course starts at Summit Lake at 3,392 feet in elevation descending Summit Lake road to route 39 with a 2 mile downhill 9% grade. The next 8 miles to Pocahontas County line is a gradual climb of 540 feet. The next 3 miles to the base of Kennison Mountain is a gradual 103 foot climb. From the base of Kennison Mountain to the top is a 1.5 mile 9% grade sharp climb of 603 feet. The last 2.5 miles is a 9% grade downhill to the Nature Center running transition point.

The Summit Lake access road is approximately 8 miles East of Richwood, WV on Route 39/55. Turn left just past the North Bend Picnic area. Parking is in First Lot. Bike drop-off is in Second Lot.
