About Charity Challenge: The Great Descent

This thrilling fundraiser, hosted in partnership with Over The Edge, invites 55 supporters to rappel 12 stories down from the roof of Hotel Arista, located in the heart of the CityGate Centre in Naperville, Illinois.

Charity Challenge: The Great Descent is a day-long event hosted on May 9th at Hotel Arista. Family, friends, and spectators are invited to come watch and support participants while enjoying music, food, and fun from ground level. The event begins at 11am, with rappelling sessions running on a rotating schedule through 6pm. Participants will be scheduled a week before the event and should plan to spend about 1 hour on prep and rappelling.

As one of only two opportunities in Illinois to participate, this unique fundraiser will be something to remember for DuPagePads supporters and will demonstrate what is possible when we strive for new heights together! We hope you will join us as one of the 55 brave neighbors stepping off the roof of Hotel Arista and helping to end homelessness here at home!

FAQ

Are there age restrictions?
No, there are no age restrictions. Participants under 18 years old will need parent/guardian signature on the waiver. See weight restrictions as well.

Are there weight restrictions?
Yes, participants must be between 100-300 lbs

How much time should I plan for?
Participants should plan on spending 1-1.5 hours from arrival to departure. The actual rappelling will last about 10 minutes.

Can you accommodate people with disabilities?
We may be able to accommodate participants with disabilities. Participants will need to walk up 1 flight of stairs for roof access. Please contact Carrie cflick@dupagepads.org with questions.

How does team fundraising work?
The team goal is set by the number of members per team, a $500 goal per team member. Once the team makes the goal, all members are confirmed, even if not all members have made their individual goal.
Ex: a 4-person team will have a $2,000 goal. If 1 person has $1,100 in fundraising, members 2-4 have $300 each, then the $2,000 is met and all members are confirmed.

What does it mean to Push Your Pastor?
Push the Pastor allows you to partner with DuPagePads to raise funds for both DuPagePads and your congregation. All you need to do is nominate a willing pastor to rappel. When your congregation raises the $500 minimum for your pastor to go “over the edge,” the pastor can choose to rappel or match the funds and nominate someone else to go instead.

What does it mean to Toss Your Boss?
Toss Your Boss is the perfect opportunity to help raise funds for DuPagePads without pledging to rappel yourself. You and a group of co-workers can nominate a willing “Boss” to rappel. If your employee group raises the designated $750, the “Boss” can either rappel, or match the funds and nominate someone else to go over the edge instead.
