2021 Participant Guide

WELCOME TO GOURDY'S PUMPKIN RUN!

We’re so glad to be back and thrilled you are joining us! Please read through all the Participant Guide tabs so you're prepared for a great race day experience!

QUICK TIPS & REMINDERS

-The event will be held at Bonnybrook Farms (3779 OH-132 Clarksville, OH 45113) on Saturday, October 30. Parking is free and is held at the farm. While parking is free, we do ask that you carpool with friends + family to help cut down the amount of vehicles.

-Please plan to arrive at least 1 hour prior to your wave start time. Packet pick-up opens at 8 AM, so please arrive early so you have time to park, grab your packet, use the restroom, and head to the start line on time.

-Please only enter the start line chute when it's your wave time. Feel free to hang off to the side of the start line while waiting for your time (and cheer others on as they head onto the course!)

-The number one question we receive is 'When should I arrive?' We advise arriving at least 1 hour prior to your wave time.

-Not a runner, but still want to be part of the event? Try volunteering! For more information CLICK HERE!

-If you are a participant who wants to use a backpack during the race - please take note that we only allow CLEAR backpacks, all others are prohibited.

-Need water while running? We encourage you to bring your own bottle as there is not a water station along the course. However, you'll receive a bottle of water at the finish line after the race!

COVID-19 GUIDELINES

We will be following all local requirements and mandates. As of this posting, outdoors events are allowed to operate with minimal interference. If anything were to change prior to race morning, we would email an update. Some things to keep in mind:

- The event is held outdoors.

- There is plenty of space to spread out and distance on the property. You can stage in the areas adjacent to the start line chute or simply wait in your vehicle until it's your time to start.

- There are waves all morning, which will allow for distancing on the course.

- Hand sanitizer will be available at the various tents and restrooms.

- Friday evening packet pick-up (optional) allows you to receive your race packet early. This way, on race morning, you can head straight to the start line when it's your wave start time.

- Current guidelines do not require masks at outdoor events. Of course, you're welcome to wear one if you prefer!

- If you are feeling sick or have tested positive for Covid-19, please do not attend. Consider making arrangements with a friend or family member to retrieve your packet.

TOUGH PUMPKIN:

Did you add on the Tough Pumpkin option during registration so you can haul a gourd around for 3.1 miles? Awesome! After you have your packet, head over to the Tough Pumpkin tent to choose your pumpkin. While sizes are dependent on the crop yield, we aim to have a variety weighing from just a pound up to ten pounds.

We will have a limited amount of Tough Pumpkin upgrades available at the packet pick-up tent. Ask a volunteer how to add this on!

RACE DAY FUN

FINISH LINE

After you rock your 3.1 miles and cross the finish line, there's still so much to do! First, grab your finisher medal and water---you've earned all of it!

Snap some photos and be sure to tag us on Instagram using #gourdyspumpkinrun

Head over to the apple cider and pumpkin redemption area (look for the teardrop banners). On your bib are tear-off tickets for each. To help keep things moving, please have these torn off prior to approaching the table. It saves so much time and makes the line a breeze!

RESULTS

Official times will be available on RunSignUp.com shortly after the run. You can log-in to your RunSignUp profile to view your result and also download an official finisher's certificate!

PHOTOS

EnMotive is our race day photography partner! These will be available for FREE download within 24 hours and emailed out to the email address you registered with. Please note, if your race bib is not easily seen (on your front side, on your outermost layer), you will have difficulty finding your photos.

THANK YOU. SERIOUSLY.

To say that we're grateful for your support is an understatement. 2020 was the most difficult year we've faced and we're lucky to be able to still produce our favorite little fall tradition. Many other events didn't make it out of last year alive. All that we can say is that race morning makes all of it worth it and even a little sweeter this year. As much as you can, get out there and support other events. We all need it so we can build back to where we were pre-2020. Again, thank you and we hope you enjoyed the event. See you next fall!

RACE MORNING

THE COURSE

The entire 3.1 miles is held on a picture-perfect farm with two medium hills and vibrant fall foliage, where you'll trot along the wagon trail with autumn-hued fields surrounding you.

Given it's through a working farm, please be aware of your footing at all times. Take turns a little slower than you normally would.

If it rains race day or even the days leading up, the course could become very muddy. Do not wear your brand new running shoes if this is the case :)

WAVE START

You chose a wave time during registration. Please be sure to only start with your assigned wave. If you forgot which wave you signed up for, you can quickly find it one of two ways:

1) Check your confirmation email

2) Log-in to your RunSignUp account > Profile > Manage Registration. Your wave time will be viewable near the bottom of the 'My Registration' page.

After grabbing your packet, you should prepare your bib before entering the start line area. Here are the important steps:

1) Fill out the back of your bib with your emergency contact details

2) Affix your bib using safety pins on the front of your body, centered on your stomach

3) Ensure it's on the outermost layer

Why? There is a timing chip on the back of your bib. If it isn't centered or it's covered, your chip may not read. Further, if we cannot easily see your bib number, your race photos will be tougher to find after the event!

When your wave time is near, head to the start line area and wait off to the side, outside the fencing. Once your wave time arrives, simply head into the start line chute and cross under the arch. It's go time!

COURSE ETIQUETTE

To ensure a wonderful experience for all, please follow these guidelines:

- If you're running, stick to the left. If you're walking, stick to the right. Very much like a highway, it is safer to pass fellow participants on the left hand side!

- If you are with a group, please be cognizant of all the other people. Instead of running with four people across, which will block the entire path, run two people. Then, the other two in the group can be right behind you!

- Please do not litter either on the course or anywhere on the property. We will have trash cans near all tents, the start line, and finish line. If you have trash, please simply hold onto it until you are near a trash can.

SAFETY + LOST AND FOUND

We will have volunteers at various parts of the course as well as event staff roaming throughout the morning. If there is a minor issue, please stop and speak with either one. We also have EMS on-site ready to assist with injuries or other potential medical issues.

In the event of a medical emergency, call 911 immediately and notify the nearest event staff member or volunteer so we can notify on-site EMS to come assist.

If you find a set of keys, a lost cell phone, etc., please return to the volunteer tent so we can try to reunite it with the owner. If you've lost something, the volunteer tent should be your first stop!

TOUGH PUMPKIN

For those of you participating in the Tough Pumpkin option, be sure to pick up your packet at the Packet Pick-Up tent first. Then, head over to the Tough Pumpkin booth marked by the large teardrop banner. You will use the tear-off on your bib to select your Tough Pumpkin.

Sizes will range from approximately 2-10 pounds.

Tip: Come to early packet pick-up on Friday for a greater range of sizes!

Please note, these pumpkins are NOT the complimentary pumpkins included in every registration. The pumpkins at the Tough Pumpkin booth are for Tough Pumpkin participants only! Everyone will receive the included pumpkin at the end of the race once you cross the finish line!
