About La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon

The La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon starts at Sylvan Beach Park by the water. The course takes runners through La Porte streets and onto the Fred Hartman Bridge, one of Texas' most distinctive structures. The bridge features twin steel towers reaching 440 feet high, with yellow cables that stand out against the sky.

After completing two bridge crossings, runners finish at Five Points Plaza where they can enjoy a post-race party featuring good food, cold beer, and awards. All finishers receive a medal.

This event is the third race in the Texas Bridge Series, organized by 3 Bros Running Company.

The awards ceremony will be held promptly at **10:00 AM** on race day.


Important Guidelines

Awards will be based on gun time for overall female and male.  Chip time for Age Group Awards.

NOTE: No double-dipping and no duplication of awards.

Awards will be handed out **on the day of the race only**. No awards will be mailed.

What is the time limit?

Four (4) hours, strictly enforced.

*Bridge races involve special permission and cooperation by local authorities, police, and emergency response, impacting vehicle traffic. Runners trailing behind may not be allowed back on the bridge for their final loop.

Can I register at packet pickup or on Race Day?

Yes, if slots are open. Note: You will not be given a shirt until after the race, if available.


Do you accept credit cards for registration?

Yes but only online, all registration must be done online at Packet Pick-up and during Race Day registration. We will have a QR code to expedite the process. 

Timing & Bib Policy

Is the event chip timed?

Yes, the timing chip is securely attached to the back of your **race bib**.


What if I forget my bib at home?

If you lose or forget your bib, there will be a **$10 charge** to reissue a new one.

IMPORTANT: You will not receive an official time if you are not properly wearing your bib. No exceptions.


What if I can't make it to the race?

There are **No refunds or transfers to next year**. However, you can:

  • Transfer your entry to another person (a $10 fee will apply) No transfers after November 10.

Warning: Running under someone else's bib will result in immediate disqualification. Transfers must be official.


Can you mail my race packet or award?

We **do not mail race packets**. Awards may be picked up at a designated location. We may mail your award for a postage fee.

What type of race shirt will I receive?

A **technical race shirt**.


Can I exchange my shirt for a different size?

If extras are available **after the race**, you may exchange your shirt. However, if the race fills, exchanges are unlikely.


Will there be Mile Markers?

Yes, mile markers will be present at **every mile**.


What's the official race drink?

**Orange flavored Sqwinchers**, available at aid stations and the finish (not on the bridge).


Will there be port-a-potties?

Yes, at all aid stations, the start, and the finish.

Eligibility & Safety Rules

What is the minimum age requirement?

Minimum age is **8 years**, with a consenting parent or guardian's signature required.


Are walkers allowed?

Yes, but you must maintain an **18-19 min/mile pace** to finish within the 4-hour limit.


Can I wear headphones?

Headphones are discouraged. If used, only **one earpiece** should be worn, keeping one ear free for safety.


Are strollers, wheelchairs, or pets allowed?

Strollers are allowed, but please be cautious of other runners.

Wheelchair racing is not insured, and pets are not allowed on the course.


What are your bad weather plans?

We will **not cancel for rain** unless visibility becomes unsafe. Lightning will delay the race by 30 minutes per strike within 6 miles. **Tornado warnings will cancel the event.** If canceled on-course, police, SAG, and medical personnel will assist participants.

Parking Information

Please review the designated parking areas for the La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon. Allow yourself ample time to find a space and get to the start area.  Start Line Parking is under a mile from the finish.

Parking Locations:

  • Race Start (Sylvan Beach): Primary parking is available.
  • Overflow Parking: Available at the high school across the street from Sylvan Beach.
  • Race Finish (Five Points Plaza): Parking is very limited at the finish line.

A Sprinter van will be available for anyone unable to walk back to their car from the finish. However, we recommend walking as it will be quicker than waiting for the van.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not park in the church parking lot across from Five Points Plaza. Towed cars will be strictly enforced.

Packet Pick-Up

Note: Race morning is hectic. Picking up your packet on race day is not guaranteed, so please arrive early. We strongly encourage you to utilize advance packet pick-up times.

Be prepared to provide the exact name you registered under. You may pick up another participant's packet with their permission and registration name.

Course Overview

Start: Sylvan Beach, 636 N. Bayshore Dr., La Porte, TX 77571
Finish: Five Points Plaza, 100 S. Broadway, La Porte, TX 77571

Start at Sylvan Beach, traverse through Main St. and Five Points Town Plaza, then onto Highway 146 over the **Fred Hartman Bridge**. Turn around and head back for a scenic finish at Five Points Plaza. A detailed course description can be found HERE.


Parking

Parking is available at Sylvan Beach (start) and **overflow parking** is at the high school across the street. Parking near the finish line is limited. Carpooling is highly encouraged.

Bag Drop

Bag drop will be available at the **start area**. Volunteers will tag your bag with your bib number and transport it securely to the **finish area** for pickup.

On-Course Support & Finish Line

Timing Chip & Bib

Your timing chip is attached to the back of your race bib. Secure your bib to the **front** of your shirt using the provided pins. Do not bend or fold your bib. **Replacement bibs on race day cost $10.**


Water Stations

Water and Orange Flavored Electrolytes will be available at the start, finish, and **every 2 miles** along the course.

NOTE: There are NO water stations on the bridge.


Finish Line & Post-Race Party

After crossing the finish line, please keep moving to prevent congestion. Results will be posted onsite and on the official website. All finishers will receive a medal. Those completing the Texas Bridge Series will receive their series award (extra medal and/or legacy mug (if applicable) at the swag tent NOT AT THE FINISH LINE

Celebrate your accomplishment with food, entertainment, and libations at the **After Party** starting at 8:45 AM!

Start at Sylvan Beach, travel through beautiful Main St. and Five Points Town Plaza of La Porte, get on 146, and cross the **Fred Hartman Bridge** into Baytown. You are halfway done! Turn around and come back for a nice finish and great finish party.

Texas Bridge Series

The Texas Bridge Series is a series of three races, over three iconic Texas bridges in the greater Houston area. Run all three Bridge races – the Kemah Bridge (Toughest 10K) in September, the Galveston Causeway (The Toughest 10K Galveston) in October, and the Fred Hartman Bridge (La Porte Half Marathon) in November, and you will get a commemorative special item!

There are no refunds or rainchecks if you miss a race.
To qualify for the Texas Bridge Series commemorative item, the same runner must finish all races.

Use the all-in-one registration to register for the Toughest 10K Kemah, the Toughest 10K Galveston, and the La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon on one form and save money versus signing up for each race individually!

Promo codes can be used for individual races but cannot be used for the Texas Bridge Series Bundle as race is heavily discounted.

Key Dates & Deadlines

Race: La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon – Sunday, November 15, 2026

Deadline to switch to Virtual: November 8, 2026

Action Required: You must register as Virtual or request a change from Live to Virtual by the deadline.

Participation & Results

  • You may complete your Virtual race any time after registering and up to **two weeks after race day**.
  • You may run on **any safe course** (track, safe neighborhood streets, treadmill, etc.).
  • Submit your results no later than **14 days after the race**. You can submit them HERE

  • If you choose to switch to virtual after the September 13th deadline it will be $25.00 this will include shipping of virtual items.
  • Virtual results are only used for **Series Finisher tracking and Legacy status**. They will be posted as Virtual Results and do not qualify for awards (e.g., age group awards).
  • **Legacy status** for the Texas Bridge Series will not be affected by whether you participate Live or Virtual.

Packet & Swag

  • **Shirts are not guaranteed** for registrations made after the shirt cut-off date.
  • Race packets will be available at **in-person packet pick-up**. Virtual runners should arrange for their packet to be collected by a proxy. Medals may be added to packets if requested.
  • Prefer shipping? Packets (shirt, medal, bib) can be mailed for a **$10 shipping fee**. Items will be mailed about two weeks after race day. Please contact admin@3brosrunning.com if you want your items shipped.
