BIKE

The bike course at the Last TRI offers a dynamic and scenic 10k loop around Stony Creek Metropark, providing athletes with a thrilling ride amidst the natural beauty of the park. Whether completing 1, 2, or 4 loops, athletes will be challenged and exhilarated by the course's varied terrain.  You will enjoy a closed bike course, dedicated inside lane around the lake will be bikes only for the event.

As athletes exit the transition area under the Bike Out inflatable, they will follow a designated lane marked by cones out of the parking lot, turning right to begin their journey around the lake. This dedicated athlete-only lane ensures a safe and focused riding environment, with vehicular traffic directed to use the opposite lane.

Throughout the course, police and support crews will be stationed at various points to manage traffic flow and ensure the safety of both athletes and park patrons. The smooth, blacktopped surface offers optimal riding conditions, with a slightly rolling profile that presents gradual inclines rather than steep climbs.

The course is predominantly tree-lined, providing shade and shelter for athletes as they navigate the route. However, the mile on the backside of the course offers picturesque views of the lake and run path, adding to the overall experience.

For athlete support and safety, the 3 Disciplines bike course coordinator will patrol the course in the opposite lane with emergency flashers activated. Athletes experiencing mechanical difficulties can flag down the coordinator for assistance, including access to onboard air and transportation back to transition if necessary.

Strict adherence to race rules is paramount, with the coordinator also serving as an official to monitor for drafting, blocking, and centerline violations. This is a NO DRAFTING event, and penalties for infractions include time increments and, in the case of centerline or cone crossing violations, automatic disqualification.

As you embark on the bike leg of the Genesis Triathlon, embrace the challenge, soak in the scenery, and remember to ride with determination, discipline, and respect for the rules of the road. Let's make this ride one to remember.

BODY MARKING

Body marking for the Genesis Triathlons & Duathlon is a crucial step in ensuring smooth and organized race operations. Here's what you need to know about the body marking process:

Temporary Tattoos: Each athlete will find a sheet of temporary tattoos in their gear bag at their designated spot on the bike rack in the transition area. These tattoos will contain numbers for the bicep, to be placed from the shoulder to the elbow.

Preparation: Before applying the temporary tattoos, please refrain from applying sunscreen, as this may affect the adhesion of the tattoos.
Application: Dampen the bicep with water and place the tattoo numbers on the designated area. Then, place a wet towel over the tattoo and hold for 30 seconds, applying firm pressure.
Removal: After 30 seconds, remove the towel and carefully peel off the backing of the tattoo to reveal the numbers.
Body Marking Table: A designated body marking table will be set up under the Body Marking flag. This table will be equipped with water and towels for applying the temporary tattoos.
Support Crew Marking: Additionally, support crews will mark each athlete with their age on one calf and the event code on the other calf. The event codes are as follows:

T = Olympic Triathlon
S = Sprint Triathlon
SS = Super Sprint Triathlon
D = Duathlon
R = Relay
By following these body marking guidelines, we can ensure accurate identification and efficient race management for all participants in the Genesis Triathlons & Duathlon. Thank you for your cooperation, and best of luck on race day!

KayaTri: Involves kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, or canoeing, along with cycling and running.

2. What Are the Different Types of Triathlons?
There are several race distances, including:

Super Sprint: 200m swim, 10km bike, 1mi run
Sprint: 750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run

3. Do I Need to Be an Experienced Athlete to Do a Triathlon?
Not at all! Many beginners start with Super Sprint and Sprint triathlons and gradually build their endurance.

4. What Equipment Do I Need?
Swimming: Swimsuit, goggles, swim cap, wetsuit (if required)
Cycling: Bike, helmet, cycling shoes, sunglasses
Running: Running shoes, comfortable athletic wear

5. Can I Use Any Bike for a Triathlon?
Yes! You can use a road bike, mountain bike, or hybrid. However, a road or triathlon bike is recommended for better efficiency on paved courses. There are also off-road, mountain bike triathlons.

6. Do I Have to Be Good at All Three Disciplines?
No, many beginners have a weaker discipline, but training helps improve overall fitness and technique.

7. What is the Transition Area?
The transition area is where all your gear is placed, and you switch between disciplines (swim-to-bike and bike-to-run). It is typically fenced with bike racks arranged in rows. Your transition area is small, so organizing it efficiently will save time. Spectators and family members are NOT allowed inside.

8. How Do Transitions Work?
Most triathlons have two transitions:

T1 (Swim to Bike): Change from swim gear to cycling gear.
T2 (Bike to Run): Switch from cycling to running gear.

Efficient setup in the transition area saves valuable time.

9. Is Drafting Allowed in the Bike Leg?
No. You must maintain a three-bike-length gap from the rider ahead. If passing, you must do so within 15 seconds to avoid a time penalty.

10. What Should I Eat Before and During a Race?

13. What Should I Wear for a Triathlon?
Less is better, especially in hot weather. Most seasoned athletes wear a tri-suit made of moisture-wicking materials. Beginners can wear shorts and a shirt but should practice in their race outfit to avoid chafing.

With over 25 years of experience and expertise in producing events across 25 states and over 1300 races, our attention to detail sets us apart in the industry.

ENTRY FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE

First and foremost, we maintain a zero-tolerance policy for the use of profanities or any form of verbal abuse towards anyone, including our incredible support crew and volunteers. Respect and positivity are paramount in creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all involved.

To ensure fair competition on the bike courses, blocking, drafting, and center line violations will be penalized accordingly.

Safety is our top priority, and therefore helmets are mandatory for all athletes participating on the bike course. Helmets must be securely fastened before mounting the bike.

While headphones are permitted on closed courses, they are allowed in only one ear to ensure athletes remain aware of their surroundings and fellow participants.

Filming of athletes by following them in vehicles is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification due to the potential danger it poses to everyone involved.

Regarding refunds, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, but refunds will only be granted in cases of death in the family or military deployment/moves. Events beyond our control, such as pandemics or emergencies, do not qualify for refunds. Event insurance is available for those seeking additional coverage in case of unforeseen circumstances.  No Refunds for any reason outside of our control.

RELAY TEAMS

Participating in a multi-sport event with friends and family can be an exhilarating and rewarding experience, fostering teamwork, camaraderie, and a sense of accomplishment. With the option to compete as a relay team, individuals can come together to tackle the swim, bike, and run legs of the race, sharing the thrill of the journey and celebrating each other's achievements.

In the triathlon relay division, assembling a team with a swimmer, biker, and runner allows each member to showcase their strengths and contribute to the overall success of the team. Alternatively, for the duathlon, a team consisting of a runner and biker can join forces to conquer the course together.

As the race begins, the swimmer will position themselves based on their swim experience in the designated start chute, just as they would if competing individually. Upon completing the swim leg, they'll transition to the biker teammate, passing the timing chip and strap to continue seamlessly onto the bike course. After completing the designated number of loops, the biker will transition to the runner, transferring the chip and strap to embark on the final run leg.

Throughout the race, the relay team will support and encourage each other, working together to overcome challenges and achieve their shared goal. Upon crossing the finish line, the entire team can celebrate together, basking in the sense of accomplishment and receiving their well-deserved finisher medals as a united group.

Whether it's the thrill of competition, the joy of teamwork, or simply the opportunity to bond with loved ones, participating in a multi-sport relay event offers a memorable and fulfilling experience for all involved. So gather your team, lace up your shoes, and prepare to embark on an unforgettable journey of endurance, friendship, and triumph.

When finishing the entire relay team can cross the finish line together and receive their finisher medals together.

RUN

The run courses at the Genesis and the Last TRI Triathlons & Duathlon offer diverse challenges tailored to each distance, ensuring an engaging and rewarding experience for all participants.

For Super Sprint athletes, the 1-mile run course provides a quick and exhilarating sprint to the finish line. After exiting under the Run Out inflatable, athletes will follow the chute past the finish line and out onto the course, guided by cones to the 8-foot-wide park blacktop path. Half a mile out, a prominent Super sign marks the turnaround point, leading athletes back to the finish line.

Sprint athletes embark on a 5k journey, following a similar path as Super Sprint competitors but continuing past the Super sign to their designated Sprint turnaround sign. Along the course, athletes will find aid stations strategically placed at the 1-mile mark, offering hydration and support.

For Olympic distance athletes, the course layout may vary based on field size. In the event of a larger field, athletes will exit under the Run Out inflatable and head left towards a chute leading to cones, which guide them out of the parking lot and onto the park path. Here, they'll complete one loop around Stony Creek Lake, with aid stations stationed every mile.

In the case of a smaller field, athletes will follow the same exit route past the finish line to reach the Olympic distance turnaround sign, marking the halfway point of their 10k run. Like their shorter-distance counterparts, Olympic athletes will find aid stations stocked with water and Gatorade Endurance at every mile.

Throughout the run courses, support crews and the 3 Disciplines run course coordinator, operating from a mule, will monitor the route to ensure athlete safety. Athletes experiencing difficulties are encouraged to seek assistance from the course coordinator or aid stations, equipped with first aid and communication to facilitate any necessary support or transportation back to transition.

As you lace up your shoes and prepare to tackle the run leg of the Genesis Triathlon, embrace the challenge, draw strength from the support around you, and let the beauty of Stony Creek Metropark propel you towards the finish line. Let's make every step count on this unforgettable journey of endurance and triumph.

Transition Area

There is NO Packet Pickup.  There is Transition Check-In, have your id's ready.  Your race bag is waiting for you at your spot on the rack in the transition area.

This statement outlines the regulations and procedures regarding the transition area for participants in an event, likely a triathlon or similar multisport competition. Here's a breakdown of the key points:

Restricted Access: The transition area is strictly off-limits to non-participants, including friends, family, and spectators. This rule is enforced for the safety of the athletes and their equipment.
Fenced Area with Inflatables: The transition area is enclosed with fencing and marked with inflatable arches indicating entry and exit points. Timing mats are placed at these points.
Assigned Spots: Each participant is assigned a spot within the transition area based on their race number. This spot will have their gear bag, race timing chip, and strap.
Space Management: Participants are urged to use only the necessary space for their gear to accommodate fellow competitors. Typically, each participant is allocated around 18 inches to 2 feet of space.
Closure before Event: The transition area closes approximately 20 minutes before the start of the event, with potential variations depending on the swim start distance.
Clearance for Athletes: The transition area remains closed until all bikes are off the course and athletes have transitioned from biking to running. Only then is it open for athletes to retrieve their gear.
Athlete Responsibility: Event management is not responsible for athlete gear. It's the responsibility of each participant to label and keep track of their equipment.
Overall, these guidelines are crucial for the smooth operation and safety of the event, ensuring that participants can efficiently transition between disciplines without interference from non-participants and with minimal risk to their gear.

WETSUITS

Safety is paramount in the Genesis Triathlons, and we are committed to ensuring the well-being of all athletes, regardless of their swimming experience or skill level. With advancements in neoprene technology, wetsuits have become a valuable tool in enhancing safety and comfort during the swim portion of the race.

Our wetsuit policy is designed with the safety of all athletes in mind, taking into consideration both cold and warm water conditions:

When the water temperature is below 70 degrees Fahrenheit, wearing a wetsuit is recommended.
When the water temperature is 64 degrees Fahrenheit or less, wetsuits are mandatory.
When the water temperature is 60 degrees Fahrenheit or less, wetsuits are mandatory, and athletes must acclimate by entering the water before the start of the race.
When the water temperature is 55 degrees Fahrenheit or less, booties are also mandatory.
Conversely, when the water temperature reaches 76 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, wetsuits are not allowed due to the risk of heat stroke or exhaustion.

Renting a wetsuit from us is simple and convenient. Just email Kenny@3disciplines.com with your size and type preference by Tuesday night before the event, and we'll have it reserved for you. A $10 reservation fee applies, with the rental fee of $50 payable in cash on race day. It is imperative that the wetsuit is returned clean and undamaged to avoid additional charges.

We highly recommend getting in the water before the race to acclimate to the wetsuit, especially if you're not accustomed to wearing one. Sizing is generally true to size, so selecting your usual size should suffice.

We offer various types of wetsuits to suit different preferences and needs:

Full wetsuits provide coverage from neck to ankles for maximum buoyancy and warmth.
Sleeveless wetsuits offer freedom of movement while still providing coverage to the ankles.
Shorty wetsuits are ideal for newcomers to the sport, offering buoyancy with a sleeveless design and legs cut above the knees.
Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, and we strive to provide you with the tools and resources necessary to make your race experience enjoyable and successful.

The lake at Stony Creek Metropark sets the stage for a challenging yet exhilarating swim leg. With its no-wake status and relatively shallow waters, it warms quickly, ensuring comfortable conditions for athletes. The swim course, carefully planned to minimize weed growth, promises a refreshing start to the race, with temperatures typically ranging from the upper 60s to low 70s.

On the bike leg, athletes will navigate a scenic 10k loop around the lake, characterized by a rolling profile that offers a mix of challenges and rewards.
