About MCRRC Run for Roses 5K
Run for Roses is a special 5K race for women only and is part of the Maryland RRCA Women's Distance Festival Series.
MCRRC Members automatically receive a $2 discount (applied in your shopping cart upon successful verification of club membership).
YOUNG RUN: The event will also offer a FREE 1/4 Mile Youth Run. There will be no timing chips used for the Youth Run. The run is FREE, but all participants must be registered by a parent or guardian prior to race day (members and non-members). Register for the Youth Run here.*** IMPORTANT NOTE: Parents or Guardians DO NOT need to register for the young runs to accompany your child. You are welcome to jump right in with them, if needed.
About the Race
Run for Roses, presented by the Montgomery County Road Runners Club, will be held Saturday, June 20th, in Wheaton Regional Park at 8:00 AM. This 5K event, first held on July 13, 1980, is for women only and is part of the Maryland Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Women’s Distance Festival (WDF) Grand Prix Series. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate in this celebration of women's running that began in 1979 as part of the quest to add women's distance events to the Olympic Games. All participants will receive a long-stemmed rose at the finish line.
DIRECTIONS
The race will take place at Wheaton Regional Park. Please use the park entrance on Shorefield Road. For GPS, use 2000 Shorefield Road, Silver Spring, MD or use this link for a google map.
PARKING
Parking will be located in the Pine Lake Lot and the lot next to the Carousel. Please enter the park via the Shorefield Road entrance.
PACKET PICKUP
Packet pickup will take place on race morning ONLY and will be located in the pavilion next to the Pine Lake Parking Lot. We will open Packet Pick Up at 6:50am. Please arrive early!
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The 5K course begins and ends in the Pine Lake Parking Lot, close to the playground. Due to Stream Restoration and Trail Renovations taking place in the park, a portion of the course is being re-routed for this year. We will post a course map as soon as permitting authorities have approved it.
FINISH FESTIVAL
After the race join us in the finish festival for refreshments, prizes and fun!
BRA DONATION DRIVE
As a part of this year's race, we are holding a bra donation drive to benefit I Support the Girls, a non profit organization whose goal is to ensure that women and girls in need are never without essential items like bras and menstrual products. We all have those bras that we just don't care for, that we brought home and just never fit us quite right and so forth. So bring your new or gently used bras and sports bras to the race for our collection. We'll take everything to I Support the Girls and they will work with their network to ensure that our donations are distrubuted to women experiencing homelessness, impoverishment or other times of distress. Thanks for your support!
TIMING, SCORING & AWARDS
This race will be chip-timed using resuable, environmentally friendly shoe chips. Chips will be distributed with your bib at packet pick up and should be tied to your shoe laces. Chips will be collected in the finish corral after the race. Results (both gun and net) will be posted on www.mcrrc.org within 6 hours of the race.
Top individual Open and Masters finishers and team finishers in the Mother / Daughter and Grandmother / Granddaughter competitions will receive awards.
