Team Captain Hub
What does it mean to be a MFM team captain?
Being a team captain can really mean anything! The time commitment is totally up to you! The involvement level of our team captains range from simply registering their team to planning year-round fundraisers for Miles! Whatever you have time for and feel passionate about, we are here to help.
To learn more about being a team captain or hear about our fundraising goals, check out our Race to Raise: Team Captain Webinar.
I'm not a team captain yet, as I need to create a team for my department. How do I do that?
If you are unsure if a team already exists for your group, feel free to ask around or check out our team list here.
Follow the steps below to create your team:
- On the Miles for Moffitt website, click the “Register” button to begin the registration process.
- Enter in all your participant information and select your race distance and then click continue.
- Next, review the wavier and if you agree with the terms, check the box, and then click continue.
- Next, complete the required participant questions and then click continue.
- On this page you will have the option to either join a team or create a team. To create a team, click the slider to change to yes.
- Once you have selected yes, complete the additional questions to create your team. You can customize the personal message on your team page or use the standard message.
- Once you have completed the questions, click continue and complete the registration process.
You can also offer a coupon code to cover the entire cost or a percentage of your employee’s registrations. For help starting a team or creating a coupon code, contact Liz Howard at Elizabeth.Howard@moffitt.org. If you still have questions, feel free to email milesformoffitt@moffitt.org.
What information do I put on my team's fundraising page?
Your team page is up to you to customize. You can share why you move for what matters, what you hope to achieve as a team through this campaign, or why you participate in Miles for Moffitt. Anything that showcases your passion for Miles.
How can I ask people to join my team?
Recruit your teammates at work, your friends and family outside of work, and even relatives in different states! Most fundraising for Miles happens through word of mouth, so ask around!
You can create flyers, business cards, etc. and post them throughout your department or hand them out in your neighborhood. Remember to link people directly to your team's fundraising page if they want to donate or join!
Want to advertise your team? Download this customizable flyer here.
We created customizable email templates to get you started. Check those out here.
My friend already registered, but forgot to join my team. How can I add them?
Please ask your friend to email milesformoffitt@moffitt.org with their name and the team that they want to join. The Miles team will update it on the backend.

Where the Funds Go
By supporting Miles for Moffitt, you have helped us take steps toward our goal of a cancer-free tomorrow. In 2024, more than 10,700 participants — including families, patients, survivors, caregivers, competitive runners, and Moffitt advocates — filled Ford Thunder Alley at Benchmark International Arena (formerly known as Amalie Arena) for the 19th annual Miles for Moffitt. Together, we raised over $1.4 million, which will go directly to help Moffitt researchers pilot new discoveries to create innovative and advanced treatments that improve the lives of our patients and families.
The Course of Your Dollars
Whether it is a $1 gift or a $1 million gift, donations, sponsorships and registration fees are vital to Moffitt Cancer Center’s ability to fund groundbreaking cancer research projects at Moffitt.
