Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon

Who is ready to be a Maniac?

This fun and exciting triathlon takes place at Smith Point County Beach, Shirley NY. The open water swim is in the calm waters of the Smith Point Bay. The bike course follows Fire Island Beach Rd. The Run is expansive that includes 2 tunnels and a boardwalk view of the Atlantic Ocean.  It's the perfect venue to spectate as you will be able to see your athletes swim, bike and run!

New for this year we are adding a Duathlon! A Short Sprint into Transition, Bike then Run!

All Maniacs will receive a race medal and swag. Podium awards will be given to the top three girls and top three boys for each age bracket (7- 17).

NON USA TRIATHLON MEMBERS MUST ADD $10 FOR A YEARLY MEMBERSHIP AND CAN BE DONE DURING THIS REGISTRATION PROCESS. USA TRIATHLON CARD (OR CONFIRMATION EMAIL) MUST BE SHOWN AT PACKET PICK-UP.

New - USA Triathlon is now also offering a $30 premier membership that will be valid until the child is 18

1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards for Female and Males will be given for each age i.e. 7, 8, 9, 10, 11....

All Splash & Dash participants will receive a participation medal - no placement awards will be given

Please note after Parking on the West Side of the Lot, you will approach the finish line and enter into Transition from the South side where you will find bike check prior to entering transition.  Please have your bike helmet stickers, bike frame stickers, race tattoos, bracelets, timing chips on,  Also adjust the bike helmet straps.  If the helmet is too big or small, please buy new one.  We will be checking the bikes and gear before entering into Transition. 

NO PARENTS OR SPECTATORS ARE ALLOWED IN TRANSITION AREA, on the BIKE or RUN COURSES.    

These Orange Areas are designated areas for you to spectate and keep all the athletes safe from interference.  Encourage your child to have fun, do their best and avoid pressuring and overbearing. The final result is the feeling of accomplishment!

Please see note that parking for participants and spectators will be on the West Side of the Lot.  We need to keep the  Center and East side Clear of  Any Non-Event Vehicles

The photos on RunSignUp will be easily searchable by your name or Bib# as long as your Bib# clearly shows in the photo. 

At packet pickup you received a large bib for your body, a decal for your helmet, and a decal for your bike, and 2 tattoos for your arm & leg calf.

So please take your time to have your Bib# clearly exposed and placed as follows.  

1-one left side upper arm, & one opposite right leg calf (side of calf)
2-on the FRONT of your bike helmet, NOT on the side
3-on your bike horizontal front tube closest to the handlebars, or high up on the vertical seat tube, for easy side viewing
4-and on the FRONT of your chest or abdomen, NOT on your back!
(5 locations total) 

You can optionally add both arms and legs with a thick marker if you want extra coverage (7 locations)

Again, make sure your Bib# is clearly visible for the camera!
Your matching name and photos will be identified by your bib#! 

Finish Line Photos
For the best Finish Line photos, make sure to keep your head up, hands up, do not look at your watch, and smile for the camera, when you are crossing the FL! And try not to get too close behind another runner who may block your photo.

 

You will then get a Great Finish Line Photo!

Special Photos:
Don’t hesitate to ask Ed, Maureen or Nigel, our photographers to take any special photos of you and your friends and family. They are there to help you get those special memorable photos at the race!

Note: We try to photograph everyone, but it is not always possible due to 3 events running simultaneously in a triathlon.

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required. UNREGISTERED PARTICIPANTS (Section 3.5) Any person who participates in any portion of a sanctioned event without first properly registering and paying any required registration fee shall be suspended or barred from membership in USA Triathlon and barred from participation in any sanctioned event for a period of one year. Any person who in any way assists another athlete to violate Section 3.5a by providing or selling a race number to that athlete shall be suspended or barred from membership in USA Triathlon and barred from participation in any sanctioned event for a period of up to one year. Any second violation of this Section shall result in a lifetime suspension or ban from membership in USA Triathlon.

After returning your bike on the bike rack, you will head towards run out, and onto the Boardwalk along the Beach.  The Splash and Dash will run Towards the Flagpole and back to the Finish Line.  All Other Age Groups, will run to the end of the Boardwalk and run the appropriate amount of loops.  You athlete is responsible to count the number of loops needed for their event.  We will have timing mats they will need to cross.  ***Have Fun***

We will have 2 locations for packet pick up - THERE IS NO PACKET PICK UP ON RACE MORNING - Participants who do not live in Nassau or Suffolk County will be contacted by race staff for alternative packet pick up.

This is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event, age groups are determined based on the child's age as of 12/31/24

**Helmets required. Must be able to ride a bike without the assistance of training wheels**

SPLASH & DASH for 5-7 year old's: This event is a great introduction to the world of Multi-sport!

7-9 year olds:

• 100 Meter Swim
• 1.5 Mile Bike
• 1 Mile Run

10-13 year olds:

• 200 Meter Swim
• 3 Mile Bike
• 1.65 Mile Run

14-17 year olds:

• 300 Meter Swim
• 4.5 Mile Bike
• 2.4 Mile Run
