About Oilman Texas Triathlon
The 23rd Annual Oilman Texas Triathlon is southeast Texas' favorite locally-produced Half Iron Distance Triathlon. New last year was the Sprint distance triathlon, offering more options to more athletes.
Saturday 5K and Kids Du athletes will enjoy a taste of the Sunday course, with a mix of roads and golf cart paths, with the same transition and finish line celebration.
Come for the race, stay for the weekend! Resort guests and Day Pass holders will be able to join in our brand new "5 O'Clock Somewhere" Fun Tri, the most amazing triathlon-themed pool party ever.
On Sunday, Half distance athletes will enjoy a 1.2 mile swim in Lake Conroe, 56 mile bike in scenic Montgomery County, and a 13.1 mile run all starting and ending at the beautiful Margaritaville Lake Resort Lake Conroe! The Sprint distance will include a 500 meter swim, 11 mile bike and a 5k run through the Margaritaville neighborhoods and golf course.

Saturday Events
5K/Kids Du Awards will be announced closer to the race but should look like overalls and standard age groups, based on size.
5 O'Clock Somewhere "Fun Tri" awards will be on the "Whose Line is It Anyway" Principle - Everything is made up and the points don't matter. But you'll see ;)
Sunday Events
These awards are TBD based on 2024 and subject to change.
Everyone will receive a custom finisher medal at the finish line
Awards will be given to the overall Male and Female and overall Master's Male and Female for the Half Distance only.
Age group awards go 3 deep for both races, utilizing USAT 5 year age group divisions.
There will be Clydesdale (men over 220 lbs) and Athena (women over 165 lbs) divisions ONLY for the Half Distance race. Awards will go 3 deep in these categories.
Relay awards will be given 3 deep in relay categories.
Aqua bike divisions go three deep in Females and three deep in Males.

Swim: 1.2 mile open water lake swim in Lake Conroe. Swim cutoff is 1h15 after last swimmer in the water, approximately 8:30. T1 cutoff will be 10 minutes after this.

Note : there are slight changes to the bike and run courses for 2025, for increased participant safety and traffic flow with the Sprint Triathlon.
Bike: 56 miles on a one loop counter clock-wise course, along farm to market roads with limited traffic through the National Forest, with rolling hills. Bike cutoff is 5h30 after last swimmer in the water, estimated at 12:45pm. T2 Cutoff is 10 minutes after this.
The Half bike course will change slightly to allow the Sprint to make 3 left turns instead of the hairpin turn from 2024.

Run: 13.1 miles on asphalt and paved roads, some rolling hills. This is a TWO LOOP RUN COURSE with a large portion on golf course paths! Run cutoff is 8h30 after last swimmer in the water, estimated at 3:45pm.
The Half course will be adjusted slightly out of transition to improve flow with the Sprint bikers returning. The Sprint will instead run the eastern half of the run loop.

We will have a group block rate in place early 2026. These rates are less than half of the price you’ll pay without the link, and will be good for stays beginning Friday or Saturday.
You may also call the hotel, but be sure to mention you are with the Oilman Triathlon when you book. Save the hassle of race morning, you won't regret it. All rooms are located in the resort within 100 yards of transition. Stay Friday night as well, and enjoy all the resort has to offer!

Parking
New this year, per resort policy all non-resort guests must pay $10 per vehicle to park near the resort. This can be done via an app and QR code with signs on race site... or avoided if you stay for the weekend ;)
Saturday Events

The 5K Course will be on a mix of road and golf cart path, as a taste of the Oilman run course. There will be one aid station approximately midway.

The Kids Duathlons will start at transition near the traditional Bike Out, and finish at the normal finish line. Run Loops will be the same but distances slightly different due to the different finish locations.

HALF SWIM COURSE

1.2 MILES.

FIRST ATHLETE IN THE WATER AT 7:00AM.

LEAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO WALK TO THE SWIM START.

Swimmers will enjoy a time-trial start. Athletes will self-seed from fastest to slowest in the staging area near the beach.

You MUST wear the provided swim cap.
-
The swim exit is a stair exit.
-
It is a short run to the transition area.
-
There will be lifeguards, boats & kayaks in the water.
-
Swim cut-off time is 1 hour and 15 minutes from the last swimmer's entrance into the water.
-
Athletes who are still in the water at the swim cut-off time will be picked up and asked to turn in their timing chip.
BIKE COURSE
-
56-ish MILES - PLEASE REVIEW THE MAP ON OUR WEBSITE.

YOU MUST WALK YOUR BIKE IN AND OUT OF TRANSITION TO THE MOUNT/DISMOUNT LINE.

Securely fasten chinstrap before leaving transition area- failure to do so is cause for a penalty
-
Ride on the right side of your lane and stay inside the cones.
-
ABSOLUTELY NO DRAFTING. Pass on the left- never on the right and complete your pass within 20 seconds.
-
The bicycle draft zone is 10m long extending backwards from the leading edge of the front wheel (5 bike lengths of clear space between bikes). Athletes have 15-20 seconds to pass through this zone.
-
Due to heavy traffic, there is a no-pass zone on FM 149 between the Lone Star ByPass and FM 1097 (both ways).
-
Major intersections will be monitored by law enforcement. Follow all traffic laws.
-
Leave your helmet on and strapped until your bike is racked (not doing so is a cause for a penalty).
-
Properly rack your bike before exiting on the run (not doing so is cause for a penalty)USAT Officials will be on the course- there are no warnings only appropriate penalties.

Take water bottles with you. There are 3 water/Gatorade Endurance hand up stops on the bike course at approximately Mile 16, Mile 31 & Mile 45. DO NOT discard trash except at the aid stations and only within the designated TRASH ZONE.

Bike cut-off time is 5h30 after last swimmer in the water (approx 12:45) - Law enforcement officials have dictated this as our cut-off time for road safety. Athletes still on the bike course will be picked up & asked to turn in their timing chip. These athletes may not continue to the run portion of the race.
RUN COURSE

Follow signs & cones- stay to your right.

BE ALERT! Traffic always has the right of way.

Water stations are approximately every mile with a total of 6.

There are Porta Potties/ Bathrooms at the Water Stations.

Gatorade & water, in cups, will be placed on tables for you to pick up.

No pacing by friends outside of the race - per USAT rules

Any course cutting is grounds for a disqualification.

Trash Zones are around Aid Stations.

Littering outside of the marked Trash Zones WILL BE PENALIZED!

Make certain your race number is in the front BEFORE you cross the finish line.

Run cut-off time is 8.5 hours from the start of the last swimmer. (approx 3:45pm)

Absolutely NO headphones, in ear/over ear/bone conduction devices allowed. This is grounds for disqualification.
RELAY TEAMS

The cyclist will wait at the bike in transition until the swimmer comes into transition.
-
When the cyclist returns, he/she must rack the bike before the runner may leave transition.
-
The team cyclist must then leave the transition area.
-
Bikes must stay racked in the transition area until it is opened by race management.

THIS IS A NON-DISPOSABLE NEOPRENE ANKLE BAND WITH THE CHIP ENCLOSED!

YOU WILL PASS THE CHIP FROM SWIMMER TO BIKER AND BIKER TO RUNNER, SIMILAR TO A BATON!
PLEASE NOTE: For Sprint Distance athletes, there will be a designated Entrance/Exit for athletes to collect their belongings after finishing the race. Since the Half-Distance race will be in progress, there may be delays in retrieving equipment if there are Half-Distance athletes in transition when you are attempting to retrieve your equipment.
REFUND POLICY
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer refunds for this race.
However, we WILL allow you to defer your entry to next year's race for a $25 fee up until October 31, 2026.
We will waive this fee for certain situations such as pregnancy or medical emergencies.
Don't forget that race insurance is also available at the time of registration for a nominal fee and will cover your entry fee should you not be able to participate.

Sunday Events:
USAT rules state that competitors may wear wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower (Wetsuit Legal)
USAT rules also state that if the water temperature is between 78.1 – 83.9 degrees, competitors may wear wetsuits but will not be eligible for awards. (Wetsuit Optional)
If the water temperature is 84 degrees or above, participants may NOT wear wetsuits.
