Experience an epic challenge...

By participating in Reno to the Redwoods, all challengers support women with cancer in Santa Cruz County through WomenCARE.  WomenCARE offers a safe haven where women with any type of cancer find mutual support, shared experiences, and open hearts. We provide cancer advocacy, resources, education, and support to women, their families and friends, and healthcare practitioners at each stage of the journey: diagnosis, healing, surviving or dying.
Virtually take the 300 mile route from Reno, Nevada around Lake Tahoe, through the mountains and valleys to the Redwoods in Santa Cruz, California, OR take the 180 mile route from Reno to the River (San Joaquin River in Stockton!). Make no mistake, this virtual challenge will test you!  But you can use whatever exercise you prefer (run, bike, swim, walk, row, fitness center machines, other, or a combination of any) to complete the challenge, further your fitness goals, and raise money for WomenCARE. And we will motivate you along the way! 
As you are increasing fitness and feeling great, You Are Making A Real Impact!  We have set our initial goal to raise $10,000 in donations to support WomenCARE! 
All challengers receive a limited edition Move Out Against Cancer, Reno to the Redwoods T-Shirt and a complimentary decal, as well as have access to Live Map Tracking of your progress.

You will be able to see your progress along the route as you enter your mileage.  Our live map tracking feature will even allow you to see where your fellow challengers are on the map compared to you - now that's some motivation! 
 
You've Got This!

Take on as few as 14-20 miles per week (2-3 miles per day). Add all your activity miles together. If you keep track of all the miles from steps you take on a normal day, be sure to add this. Those steps add up! You can set your goal to move as few as 20 miles per week or challenge yourself to cover as many as you can - be sure to pace yourself! We will help you total up your distance and track your progress with our online platform.
 
These challenges are simple:

This fundraiser does not ask that you recruit donations or pledges - however - the more participants we have, the more funds we raise!

May 18-June 11: Tee shirt pickup for local particpants at WomenCARE office during office hours, Monday-Thursday, 1pm-5pm.

About Us

This challenge is sponsored by WomenCARE and all proceeds and donations go directly to us. We are a locally grown non-profit that has been providing support to women with cancer and their families/caregivers since 1992. Started by a group of women who saw the need in Santa Cruz County, CA for women to have a community of support, we have been here to provide FREE support to all women with cancer, at all stages of that journey. With a small staff and a large complement of volunteers we are able to provide critical support and many direct services , which include:

  • practical support (transportation, light house cleaning, childcare, etc),
  • emotional support groups and
  • healing circle classes,
  • information (library) and referrals, 
  • body works and body care,
  • community outreach
  • legal advocates

Our Entre Nosotras (Between Us) program provides culturally sensitive support to Spanish speaking women with cancer in south Santa Cruz county.

FAQs

Who can enter the challenge?

This challenge is designed for anyone and everyone! With the challenge of covering as few as 14-20 miles a week, anyone in your family can participate.  You can also encourage family members to join you to help you achieve your goal.  You can run/bike/walk/swim from anywhere to participate.

What do I get?

Your inherent reward is that you are improving your fitness while supporting WomenCARE and women with cancer in Santa Cruz County. All challenges will also receive a unique Reno to the Redwoods tee shirt, unisex or female-specific, and a sticker for you to decorate your computer, notebook, etc. And each challenger will receive a virtual challenge bib that can be downloaded from the race page, participation in an active leaderboard, live map tracking along our course and a digital finisher's certificate with all your stats! 

When can I receive my shirt and sticker? And how do I get them?

We will start processing after registration and will be available from May 18 until June 11. Santa Cruz participants can pick up at the WomenCARE office, 2901 Park Avenue, Suite 1A, Soquel, CA, during office hours Mon-Thurs 1pm-5pm. If you are local, and would like yours mailed, please choose that option and $6 will be added to your registration fee. All those out of town can have them mailed without charge. 

How do I complete the challenge?

You can complete it any way you wish. Walk, run, swim, bike, roll, spin—-whatever makes you happy! And you can cover your miles any day, and in any way, that best works for you.

What are the dates for the challenge?

You can register starting March 15 and the challenge begins April 1 and ends July 1. You can start building miles anytime after April 15. After the end of the challenge, you can add your miles already covered before July 1 until July 8. Remember the later you start, the more challenging your challenge will be.

How do you track our progress? 

This challenge relies on the honor system. We encourage you to take photos of your watch, phone screen, treadmill, etc to share your results and/or activity on the Facebook Challengers page.

These are the ways you can track and prove your accomplishment.

Go to RenototheRedwoods.com. Submit your activity updates via the RESULTS page.
Go to the Results tab on the menu. At the top of the page, it will say “Post your Virtual Results”. Hit the blue “Submit Virtual Results” button. Search for your name and follow the steps.
Join our Reno to the Redwoods Facebook group. You can upload photos of your activity and also connect with other challengers.
