Rockville 10K/5K

The City of Rockville, in partnership with the Montgomery County Road Runners Club (MCRRC), welcomes all to participate in this fall running tradition. The 10K and 5K run along the streets of the King Farm community for a scenic and challenging, yet rewarding, course. It is an ideal venue to cap off your summer/fall training and kick off the upcoming winter running season.

Participants of all abilities are welcome, but please note that a 15:00 min/mile pace will be enforced due to permitting requirements and the re-opening of roads. Participants who fall behind a 15:00 min/ mile pace will be moved to the sidewalk. Walkers are encouraged to participate in the 5K distance only due to the road closure restrictions.

Strollers are permitted - we ask that anyone pushing a stroller seed themselves in the back of the field at the start of the race they are running. Dogs and all other pets are NOT permitted on the course. 

Race Day Schedule:

• 7:15 AM - Race Day Packet Pickup & Registration opens
• 8:00 AM - Road Closures go into effect
• 8:00 AM - Bag Check opens
• 8:10 AM - Kids One-Mile Fun Run (corner of Redland Blvd. and Pleasant Dr.)
• 8:30 AM - 10K Start
• 8:45 AM - 5K Start
• 10:15 AM - Bag Check closes.

Road closures are in effect at 8:00 AM

Age group awards will be awarded to the top two male and the top two female finishers in each of the following categories for the 10k and 5k distances: Ages 1-13, 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80+

Below is the official course map for the Rockville 10K/ 5K.

START: On Pleasant Drive heading south. Approx. 300 feet north of Redland Blvd. Even with te south side of the open
archway from Pleasant Dr. to a parking lot on the east side. Even with the road transition from asphal to concrete. 18
inches south of the red bricks in the road.

Turn: On Gaither Road, 162 feet south of the south curb of Shady Grove Road, 65 feet south of the center of the first
drivewav into a parking lot south of Shady Grove Road, even with the 5th expansion joint in the curb, south of the parking
lot driveway.

MILE 1: On Gaither Road heading south, approximately 450 feet south of Shady Grove Road. 11 feet south of blue US
Mail Box, 19 feet north of the center of second entrance into parking lot.

MILE 2: On Redland Blvd., heading west, 49 feet east of the end of the median divide curb at Piccard Drive.

MILE 3: On Gude Drive heading east, 198 feet east of the east-most traffic light at Gaither Road. NOTE: there is a
“speed limit” sign near the mile marker.

Turn: On Gude Drive at 355, at the end of the Gude Drive concrete median divide, 40 feet west of 355.

MILE 4: On Gude Drive going west, 306 feet east of the center of Watkins Pond Blvd., 28 feet east of light pole #31.

Turn: On Gaither Rd approximately 800 feet north Gude Drive at concrete curb at the south end of the first median break.

MILE 5: On Piccard Drive going, north, approximately 200ft. north of Gude Drive, 80 feet north of center of the bus stop
shelter on east side of road, 40 feet north of light pole #15 (label on light).

MILE 6: On Redland Blvd., heading east, halfway between Landis Way and Reserve Champion Drive, 6 feet east of
506 doorway.

FINISH: Same as START

Race bibs, numbers, and shirts will be available during Packet Pickup as follows:

• Saturday, October 31 between 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM at RnJ Sports (11910 Parklawn Drive, Unit R (upper level); Rockville)
• Sunday, November 1 between 7:15 AM - 8:30 AM in the King Farm Village Center (302 King Farm Blvd., Rockville)

ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to pickup your race items in advance to avoid long lines on race morning.

Street parking is available in the neighborhood, north of King Farm Blvd. and south of Redland Blvd. There are also parking garages located at 702 King Farm Blvd., a 4-5 block warm-up jog, away from the staging area. Parking in the Safeway parking lot is prohibited.

Road closures are in effect at 8:00 AM affecting:

• Redland Blvd. between Grand Champion Dr. and the I-270 exit onto Redland Blvd.
• Gaither Rd. between W. Gude Dr. and Shady Grove Rd.
• Piccard Dr. between King Farm Blvd. and W. Gude Dr.
• W. Gude Dr. between Route 355 and Research Blvd.

*** No strollers or pets of any kind are permitted on the course for any of the events.  Participants seen with either will be pulled from the course with no refund.

Packet Pickup and Late Registration

Please note your bib number at the top of this message and bring it with you to packet pickup.  Noting your bib number in advance will ensure a more expeditious packet pickup experience.

Packet Pickup will take place on Saturday, November 5th at RnJ Sports (11910-R Parklawn Drive, Rockville) from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM.  

Limited Packet Pickup will be available on race day, Sunday, November 6th at King Farm Village Center (302 King Farm Blvd., Rockville) starting at 7:30 AM.   

Online, race day registration will be available until the race start ($45.00 - 10k or 5k; $15.00 - Kids Run). No paper forms will be used!  If you have a friend or family member who is not yet registered but is considering joining you, please encourage them to register online BEFORE arriving to Packet Pickup to keep the lines moving.

Please do not park in the immediate parking lot at this location!

Parking

Option A: Use the parking garage at 702 King Farm Boulevard with a four-block warm-up walk/jog to the King Farm Village Center. 

Option B: Use neighborhood street parking surrounding King Farm Village Center, north of King Farm Boulevard and south of Redland Blvd. Please be mindful of local residents.

PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE SAFEWAY PARKING LOT!

Miscellaneous

The 15 min/ mile pace will be enforced for the 10K event.  Participants of the 10K who fall behind this pace will be asked to move onto the sidewalk on W. Gude Drive in order for the City of Rockville to re-open the street to vehicular traffic.  This will be strictly enforced due to the terms of the permit.

Don't forget to turn back your clocks one hour Saturday night!  If you show up early, we may put you to work for a bit.
