About Sage City Triathlon

Kirby Medical Center and the City of Monticello proudly offer the annual KMC Sage City Triathlon. The venue is well designed for beginner triathletes and elite competitors, and everything in between. The shallow depth pool makes this an ideal starting point for any triathlete concerned about the swim, and the condition of the course offers an opportunity for elite triathletes to find a new PR.  

Registration closes at 4PM Thursday on race week.  There will be no late registration and no on-site registration.  If you want to race, be sure to register by 4PM Thursday!!

All participants who register by 11:59pm CST on July 14 will receive a free race shirt. Shirts will be available for pick up on race morning. 

The transition area will open at 6:30AM on race morning. Athlete marking will begin at 6:30 AM on the basketball court.

The mini will begin at 7:15 AM and the sprint will begin at 8 AM. 

Awards will be given as follows:

  • Top 3 Male and Top 3 Female Overall
  • Top 3 Male and Top 3 Female in each age group: 14 and under, 15-19,  20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+
  • Top 3 Clydesdale
  • Top 3 Athena
  • Top 3 Relays

Post-race food will be available for athletes, to include subway sandwiches, chips and drinks.

This race is not USAT sanctioned. You do not need to buy a one-day pass or provide your USAT number for registration or packet pickup.

Course Descriptions

Mini - Bike Course

The 5 mile course is quite fast with gentle rolling hills that travel Allerton Rd. The ride starts at the Monticello Aquatic Center, travels West (left) out of the transition area on to Railroad St, then Southwest on to Allerton Road. The turnaround is approximately 2.5 miles away near N 700 East Rd. Note: this is not a closed course. Be aware of traffic and yield to vehicles. We have taken precautions to minimize traffic but it is not a closed course. Stay aware of your surroundings.

 

Always ride on your right. Drafting is not permitted. USAT rules regarding drafting and passing will be enforced. Mini - Run Course

The 1 mile run course will leave the transition area and turn West (left) on to Railroad St, stay right at the first and second fork to remain on Railroad St (it will be well-marked), then turn left on to a closed, paved running trail. The turnaround is approximately 2 blocks down the trail. Athletes return along the same route.

 

Always run on on your right. Pass on the left.

Mini - Swim Course

100m swim in a 25m pool using a serpentine swim route. Athletes will enter the pool one at a time every 3-5 seconds as directed by a race volunteer. Athletes are to always swim on the left side of the lane. You will swim to the end of the lane, and move to the next lane by going under the floating lane line. Passing is permitted on the left if doing so does not interfere with fellow athletes.

 

Athletes will exit on the West side of the pool and travel through the fence gate to the transition area.

Sprint - Bike Course

The 13.5 mile course is quite fast with gentle rolling hills that travel through scenic Allerton Park. The ride starts at the Monticello Aquatic Center, travels West (left) out of the transition area on to Railroad St, then Southwest on to Allerton Road. Athletes will ride approximately 3 miles to the entrance to Allerton Park. Turn in to the entrance and enjoy a long downhill on very smooth pavement to the river, followed by a winding climb to Old Timber Rd (road ends – you can’t miss it). Turn left on Old Timber Rd to travel through the park to Sun Singer statue, ride the circular route around the statue, and return along the same route to the Monticello Aquatic Center. Note: this is not a closed course. Be aware of traffic and yield to vehicles. We have taken precautions to minimize traffic but it is not a closed course. Stay aware of your surroundings.

Sprint - Run Coure

The 3.1 mile run is one of the flattest, fastest 5K routes you will find. Athletes will leave the transition area and turn West (left) on to Railroad St, stay right at the first and second fork to remain on Railroad St (it will be well-marked), then turn left on to a closed running trail that takes you across the Sangamon River. Stay on the trail as it crosses County Farm Rd (be aware of traffic) and enjoy the gravel section of trail that leads to the Appletree subdivision. The trail ends at the subdivision and athletes will turn left on to Green Apple Lane for about two blocks, then turn around at the cone to return along the same route.

Sprint - Swim Course

The setup and transition area is located in the parking lot of the Monticello Aquatic Center. Both races use the same transition area.
