Shepherd's House Run For Recovery

The Shepherd’s House is hosting the 27th Annual Run for Recovery 5K and Fun Walk.  We are EXCITED to be BACK AT KEENELAND again in 2026 offering a live event.  Again this year a VIRTUAL Run/Walk option will be available for those who prefer to participate remotely and still support the Shepherd's House.  The Shepherd’s House operates several Recovery Treatment Programs throughout Central Kentucky ranging from In-Patient, Intensive Out-Patient, Recovery Housing, Community Impact, Recovery Community Center, and Jail Substance Abuse Programs.  All of our programs are highly structured programs that promote personal responsibility, accountability, and life skills to successfully live in recovery.   

This fundraising event is a celebration of recovery and attracts both serious and recreational runners, walkers, and dogs.  This event has something for everyone. Family friendly, pet friendly, and supports a great mission!   We can't wait to see you at Keeneland in July 2026!  Join us in Celebrating Recovery in the Bluegrass!

Leroy Sanborn, a runner since the late 90's, two time Boston Marathon finisher, and a graduate of Shepherd's House, founded the Run for Recovery in 2000.    

We lost Leroy in 2022 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.  We miss him dearly and are thankful to him for his tireless support of the Shepherd's House. 

Race Venue

1.  Where will be the race be held?  The live event will be held at the historic Keeneland Race Course, in Lexington, Kentucky.  Should you choose, you may also participate virtually and post your times on the race website when completed.  

2,  What time does the race start?  The live event at Keeneland starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 26th.  Should you participate virtually, you may post a time on the race website anytime from 8 a.m. - midnight on July 26th.   

3.  Where do I run/walk?  Keeneland for the live event or virtually on a 5K course you determine

Race Registration

1.  When does online registration close?  Online registration will remain open through race morning (7/26/25).  Please register before leaving home on race day!    

2.  What do I get for my registration fee? Your registration fee includes participant info, access to Run-Signup to upload times and manage registration, and a race t-shirt.

3.  Is there a benefiting charity?  Yes, all proceeds benefit Shepherd's House. 

4.  Can I get a refund of my registration fee? Sorry. registration fees go to the benefiting charity and are non-refundable.

What is a Virtual Race?

1.  A virtual race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose.  We will provide a "Preferred Course Map".

2.  You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill, at the gym, or on the track.

3.  You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself.

Race T-Shirt/Race Packets Pick-Up

1.  Pre-race day T-Shirt and Race Material Pick-Up schedules are TBD at this time.  Pickup will be available at 7:00 am on race day as well.

2.  Virtual Participants - Race shirts are not available to virtual participants.  

Race Timing/Awards/Results

1.  Will the race be timed?  Yes.

2.  Will awards be presented after the race?  Yes. Awards will be presented to the top 3 male/female overall finishers and top 3 male/female in the following age groups:  12 & Under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & over

3.  Can I find my finish time online?  Yes! As times are updated on the site by the participant, they will be posted and available to view.

The Live Fun Walk Course will simply be the first mile of the 5K course.  Walkers will line up behind the runners at the Start Line and all will start at the same time.

See Suggested Course Map...this is a 5K map starting at Shepherds House on Maxwelton Court with the halfway point at our Phase 3 Housing on Lynhurst.  Course takes you through UK campus and returns you through interesting sections of downtown.
