YOUR DOLLARS AT WORK

All funds raised through the Teal Power Race and Walk advance the mission of the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Greater Cincinnati and benefit those affected by ovarian cancer in our community.

Our Mission is very simple.

  • Drive Awareness and Education of Ovarian Cancer and Its Symptoms to Promote Early Detection
  • Support Survivors of Ovarian Cancer
  • Fund Research Towards Early Detection, Survivability and Cure of Ovarian Cancer

We have no office, employees, or overhead. 97% of all expenditures go towards our mission. In the last 9 years we have donated $2,175,000 to some of the top institutions in the world for ovarian cancer research!

In 2024 we worked hard at accomplishing our mission.

  • We hosted 250 guests at the Jeans & Jewels Gala with a live and silent auction, raffles, and dinner. We raised over $150,000 to further our mission.
  • We had 1,500 people participate in our Teal Power 5K Race & 3K Walk to support and honor survivors and lost loved ones and to raise awareness of ovarian cancer. We raised $120,000 to further our mission.
  • We donated $275,000 to research for early detection and a cure.
  • We did multiple retail events and health fairs to hand out ovarian cancer symptom cards and provide awareness information.
  • We gave 150 care totes to the gynecologic oncologist offices in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Northern Kentucky for newly diagnosed women with care items and information.
  • We supported our Survivors through our Woman to Woman mentoring program for newly diagnosed women.
  • We hosted 3 Survivor Socials for our Survivors to get together and offer support and help to their Teal Sisters.
  • We hosted Teal Power Talks with multiple high school and medical school college classes to educate about ovarian cancer.
  • We did multiple interview segments for tv and radio broadcasts to raise awareness.

Symptoms

The Best Prevention is early detection...Pap Tests Do Not Detect Ovarian Cancer
There is no screening method for early detection of ovarian cancer. The symptoms of the disease are vague, and are not always gynecologic. Research shows that women with ovarian cancer often report having one or more of the following symptoms, so remember BEAT:

B - Bloating
E - Eating Difficulties, feeling full quickly
A - Abdominal or pelvic pain.
T - Trouble with urination, urgency and frequency

Take action to BEAT ovarian cancer by seeing your doctor, preferably a gynecologist, if the above symptoms are unusual for you and occur almost daily for more than a few weeks.  Additional symptoms may include fatigue, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, painful intercourse, weight gain or loss, and menstrual irregularities.

WHO GETS OVARIAN CANCER?

  • All individuals with ovaries are at risk for ovarian cancer
  • Women with a family or personal history of ovarian, breast, or colon cancer may have a higher risk
  • Women who have never been pregnant or given birth may have a higher risk
