Street Dog Hero’s biggest community event of the year is back.
Heroes on the Run is part of Heroes & Hounds — a full-day celebration in Bend’s Old Mill District featuring our 5K, 10K, and Kids Mini-Run in the morning, followed by the Hungry Hound Doggolympics, food, drinks, vendors, and adoptable dogs in the afternoon.
Run in the morning. Stay for the fun. Help dogs around the world and right here at home.
Every registration fuels rescue, medical care, and expanded spay & neuter clinics — changing lives one dog at a time.
The Run
Choose your distance: 5K, 10K, or Kids Mini-Run.
Leashed, friendly dogs are welcome — bring your PAWticipant.
This professionally timed course follows the Deschutes River Trail through the Old Mill. Race it hard or cruise it with friends — either way, you’re part of something bigger than a finish line.
Every registered runner receives a custom finisher medal, a limited-edition HOTR sticker, and a complimentary beer (21+) to celebrate at the finish line.
Race shirts and PAWticipant bandanas are available as optional add-ons during registration.
Stay for Doggolympics
After the race, enjoy a live frisbee show by JD Platt & The K9 Kings, followed by the Hungry Hound Doggolympics on the lawn at Greg’s Grill — featuring obstacle agility, high jump, 50-yard sprint, and a best trick competition.
Dogs can compete or just come hang out — sign your pup up to participate, or grab a drink and cheer them on. All friendly dogs are welcome.
Plus food trucks, a beer garden, Kid Zone (bounce house & Fire Truck!), local vendors, and adoptable dogs ready to meet their families. The afternoon celebration is open to the public — bring friends and make a day of it.

Event Location & Layout
The Old Mill District
Race Registration & Start/Finish will take place on the grass below the entrance to the Hayden Homes Amphitheater.
If you're in the main Old Mill shopping area near the movie theater and shops, cross the pedestrian bridge toward the Amphitheater. Once across the bridge, you’ll see a large grassy area just below the main Amphitheater gates — that’s us. Look for race tents, banners, music, and a crowd of runners (and dogs).
Doggolympics, Dog Zone, Kids Zone, Food & Beer will take place across the river on the lawn at Greg’s Grill.
After you finish your race, simply head back across the pedestrian bridge toward the main Old Mill shops and walk to Greg’s Grill — the event lawn is directly in front of the restaurant along the river.
The two event areas are connected by the pedestrian bridge and are just a short walk apart.
