Beer Mile Rules
Sew Hop’d – Huntley Historical Society Beer Mile Rules
1. This is a drinking event. Each competitor regardless of gender drinks four 12-ounce beers provided by Sew Hop’d Brewery and runs four laps around the ¼ mile course (starting with chugging a beer, keeping spillage to a minimum, then run a lap, then drink a beer, then run a lap, then drink a beer, then run a lap, then drink a beer, then run a lap – then finish). Relay Team consists of (drink 1 beer then run 1 lap for each relay runner, tag next runner on team upon completing the lap)
2. Every competitor MUST be over 21 years of age. Identification will be required at packet pickup. Designated drivers or use of public transportation is highly encouraged.
3. Beer must be consumed within the transition area before a lap begins. The transition area known as the "Chug Zone" is between the starting line for the mile race and the finish line of a ¼ mile lap loop course.
4. The race begins with competitors lined up on the mile starting line, drinking the first beer in the Chug Zone as described above. This ensures competitors cover a complete mile. Competitors can walk/move within the Chug Zone while drinking, but all beer must be consumed in the Chug Zone before setting off to run a lap.
5. Competitors must drink the 5% alcohol beer provided by Sew Hop’d Brewery.
6. Beer will be drank from four 12 ounce cups, one for each lap. (One beer for each relay runner)
7. Evidence of the race and proof that all beer was sufficiently consumed will be required. This will be achieved by competitors tipping the empty beer cup over their head after each chug to verify the empty cup. Proof at the start line will be determined by race officials witnessing the tipped cup and releasing each competitor.
8. Competitors who vomit(s) will receive a 2 minute penalty added to their overall time. Relay teams will receive a 2 minute penalty to their total time in any team members vomit(s). No more than 2 minutes will be added to a team or runners time.
9. Rain Rules - the Beer Mile is a rain or shine event. We will make every attempt to hold the event. If it is raining prior to the start time, Packet Pickup will be held inside the Sew Hop'd Brewery. We will wait out rain until it is safe to hold the event. We will not reschedule the event. If the situation is unsafe for the event to continue, the Beer Mile will be stopped permanently. Though highly unlikely to occur, this rule is put in place for the safety of runners, volunteers, and staff.
11. No family, pacers or mules are permitted on the course, only registered runners.
12. No dogs permitted on the course.
