The Rising

START TIME: 7:30(ish)

Join the Oviedo Run Club and our community in continuing the Rising tradition.  

The course begins in front of the Historic Sanctuary at First United Methodist Church and follows the Cross Seminole Trail for and out and back distance of either a 5k or 10k.  The Kids' Fun Run is under a mile, along the beautiful canopied road.

Each year, The Rising has raised thousands of dollars to be put back into our local charities, like HopeHelps, Inc. and The Oviedo Preservation Project.  The area schools are encouraged to sign up as teams to win grants for the largest schools in attendance.  Your registration helps fund our mission of giving.  

Cash awards are given to the top 3 male and female finishers for the 5k and 10k distances.  Finishers awards and age group winners (5 year increments) are also given and a sure to be worth running for.

The Oviedo Run Club is committed to putting on a green event, which entails the use of compostable water cups, on site recycling and race packets that are full of useable items, not to be wasted.

Dress up and run for fun and CASH PRIZES!! The Costume Contest will be judged by our sponsors.  You must wear your costume during your run in order to be eligible.  Be on the look-out for more details!

What could be more fun than a bunch of random people running around in their Halloween costumes? Let's have fun with this!!

Here's how it works:  

Only registered participants of The Rising 2021 are eligible for the cash award.

All or a portion of the costume must be worn during your run.

Snap a picture of your costume and post to social media. Make sure to visit the judging area and show it off to the participating sponsor booths at the post-race festival.

Judging will take place as participants complete the event. The top three costumes will be announced shortly after the race during the awards ceremony.

The Rising Food Drive will be held at the The Oviedo Run Club, in the Atticus Printing parking lot (159 N. Central Ave) Tuesday evenings from now until the day of the race.  Please bring any items from the list below to help others in need.  Look for the white 5-gallon buckets located near the train cars for a contact-free drop-off.

 Canned pasta (pasta rings, raviolis, etc.)

Awards will also be given to the largest groups from Running Clubs, Elementary Schools, Middle Schools and High Schools.

Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Oviedo Cemetery!

Join us for an hour-long visit with some of Oviedo's founders. We'll be touring the cemetery under the guidance of historical figures who've come to life for the evening to introduce us to their dearly departed friends. Tales of civil war, suicide, celery, snakes, and other surprising scenarios will be center stage at The Oviedo Preservation Project's Annual Cemetery Tour, now know as the Twilight Tour. This event will take place at the Oviedo Cemetery (across from Oviedo High School on S.R. 426), and your $3+ donation is appreciated, though not mandatory. 100% of proceeds are reinvested in educating people about Oviedo's History through The Oviedo Preservation Project. All actors and organizers are volunteers.

Please join us to hear more in-depth stories from actors in costume who will tell about themselves and about what Oviedo was like when they were alive. The show is performed "theater in the rounds" style, with various stations coming alive at the same time. Visitors will move from station to station to interact with the characters. Yes! We still have them!

• Students high school and younger pay their age through October 15th.
  • Example - your child is 7 years old. When you enter her birthdate, the system will automatically adjust her price to $7)
• Our older and wiser participants  pay 100 MINUS their age through October 15th
  • Example - you are 88. When you put in your birthdate to the registration module, the price will automatically adjust to $12)

Every year, we offer up to three $500 grants - for the largest elementary, middle, and high-school teams. But there is ONE caveat:  the minimum team size needed to be in the running 25 people. We have had teams as large as 40 people before, so this is no big deal :) We're going for BIG here, so wrangle up a few more friends to come walk through history with you!!

Remember, students still in high school pay "your age" as the registration fee through October 18! (If you are 5 years old, the registration is $5 through October 18th).
