The Toughest 10K Kemah, the opening event of the Texas Bridge Series. This distinctive course takes runners over the Kemah-Seabrook Bridge, featuring a challenging 3.5% grade that provides scenic views of Galveston Bay and Clear Lake. The race finishes at the popular Kemah Boardwalk, combining a satisfying physical challenge with one of the area's most enjoyable waterfront locations.

Awards Information

  • Time: Awards will be presented at 9:00 AM.
  • Timing: Awards will be based on chip time.
  • Note: No double-dipping or duplication of awards.

Awards will be handed out on race day only. No awards will be mailed. If an unforeseen circumstance prevents you from picking up your award on race day, you may be able to collect it at a designated location (usually one of the packet pick-up sites). Please check with us after the race via the Contact Form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where does the race start?

A: The race starts at the boardwalk. Parking and the starting line are within blocks of each other. For details, click here for the course map (also available on the Race Information sub-menu).

Q: What time should I arrive at the race?

A: If you're picking up your packet on Race Day, please arrive between 6:00 AM – 6:45 AM. Race mornings can be hectic, so allow extra time.

Q: Is the race route available on the website?

A: Yes, you can view the course map here (it’s also located in the Race Information sub-menu).

Q: What is the race time limit, and is it strictly enforced?

A: The time limit is two (2) hours and is strictly enforced! Due to bridge races requiring special permission and coordination with local authorities, the time limit must be adhered to in order to continue organizing these events. Runners trailing far behind may not be allowed back on the bridge for their final loop.

Q: Do I get a finisher Shirt?

A: Participants are guaranteed a shirt and their size if they sign up by August 15th.  All other participants will receive a shirt on a first come basis.

Q: Where is packet pick-up?

A: Please refer to the Packet Pick-Up page.

Q: Can I register during packet pick-up or on Race Day?

A: Yes, as long as registration limits haven’t been reached. Please note that we cannot guarantee race shirts or goodies on Race Day.

Q: Do you accept credit cards at packet pick-up and Race Day registration?

A: We will take cash or check and all card payments will be directed to our race website which will be open for race day until registration closes.

Q: What is the minimum age requirement, and does it require parental consent?

A: The minimum age for the 10K is 6 years old, and a consenting parent or guardian must sign the waiver for participants under 18.

Q: Can I pick up a friend’s packet?

A: Yes, you can.

Q: I registered but couldn’t attend. Can I get a refund or defer my registration?

A:  There are no refunds or deferrals.  If you have an injury that prevents you from running please purchase race insurance to protect your registration.  You can get it here  You can also switch to virtual for free 7 days by September 13th after that date it will be a $25 fee.

Q: I registered for the Texas Bridge Series; can I transfer my registration to another person?

A: Yes, but all three races must be transferred to the same person. We cannot split all-in-one registrations for multiple runners.  Transfer fee of 10 dollars will be applied for any race transfers.

Q: I won an award but left early. Can you mail it to me?

A: No, we do not mail out awards after the race. You may be able to pick up your award at one of the packet pick-up locations. Please contact us after the race.

Q: Where do I get my timing chip?

A: Your timing chip is attached to your race bib.

Q: What if I forget my timing chip or bib at home?

A: If you forget or lose your bib, there is a $10 charge to issue a new one.

Q: The shirt in my packet doesn’t fit. Can I exchange it for a different size?

A: You may exchange shirts after the race if there are extras. However, shirts are ordered based on the size selected during registration, and there may be limited availability for exchanges.

Q: Will there be port-a-potties at the race?

A: Yes, port-a-potties will be located near registration and packet pick-up. Refer to the course map for more details.

Q: What is your contingency plan for bad weather?

Rain – The event will not be canceled for rain alone unless conditions become unsafe.

Lightning – The race will be delayed by 30 minutes each time lightning is spotted within 6 miles of the race site.

Tornado Warning – If a tornado warning is issued near the start time or during the event, the race will be canceled.

Q: Can I participate with a baby jogger or stroller?

A: No, due to safety concerns on the bridge, strollers are not allowed.

Q: Can I bring my pet/dog to the race?

A: No, pets are not permitted. Bringing a pet could result in disqualification.

Q: Can I participate in the race with a wheelchair?

A: Unfortunately, the race is not insured for wheelchair participants at this time.

Q: Can I wear headphones during the race?

A: While we strongly discourage headphone use (per RRCA guidelines), if you must use them, please wear only one earpiece for safety.

Q: What type of race shirt will I receive?

A: You will receive a technical shirt.

Q: Will there be non-water drinks at the aid stations?

A: Yes, Electrolyte Drinks at First and 3rd Water Stop.  2nd water stop will be exclusively water.

Q: Why can't I use Promo codes on Texas Bridge Series bundle?

A: Promo codes are not available for Texas Bridge Series Bundle as there is a heavy discount. Promo codes can be used on individual races only.

Please arrive by 6:00 AM (1 hour early).

Streets will close 6:45 AM for the race start.


The start line is on the Kemah Boardwalk. Runners enter the chute by Saltgrass Steakhouse.

Packet pickup is along Kipp Ave in front of the Kemah Boardwalk arch.

There will be plenty of parking. Five parking lots (A–E) are shown below with Google Map links (to be added).

Race Start Information


Parking

  • Designated Parking: Runner parking is available at the Kemah Boardwalk and is FREE. Please allow yourself ample time to find a parking space and get to the race start area. 

Pets and Baby Strollers

  • No dogs or baby strollers/joggers are allowed on the race course.
  • Do not bring your pet to the Boardwalk! Pets (except service animals) are not allowed on the Boardwalk per their rules. Please help us be good guests and comply.

Race Timing System/Bib

  • Your timing chip is attached to your bib and will be distributed in your race packet.
  • Do not forget your bib on race morning. You will need it to receive an official finish time when you cross the finish line.
  • If you forget your bib, you will need to pay $10 for a replacement.
  • All participants must wear their bib on the front in a way that course officials can see it.
  • Do not bend or fold your bib—it may damage the timing chip, preventing you from getting a recorded time.
  • Bibs are non-transferable. No official finishing time will be awarded if someone else is wearing your bib.

Packet Pickup and Race Day Registration

  • Race Day Packet Pickup & Registration: Starts at 6:00 AM.
  • Race Day Registration is available as long as slots remain open.
  • Note: You will not receive a shirt until after the race if shirts are still available.

Port-a-Potties

Port-a-potties will be located near the Start Line and at the Water Stations.


Water Stations

Water stations serving water and Electrolyte Drinks will be available at two water stops and the middle water stop will be exclusively water.


Bag Drop

NO bag drop is available for this event.


Course Description

The course is flat and easy on the Kemah Boardwalk, but the "tough" part involves running over the Bridge to Seabrook and back over the Bridge to the finish!


Race Etiquette

  • Line up at the starting line based on how fast you plan to run or walk.
  • Slower runners and walkers should move to the back of the pack.
  • Runners will start 3 at a time due to narrow lanes and construction on the bridge.
  • Caution: Narrow lane/low guard rails on Kemah Bridge. Run no more than 2 abreast.
  • If you wear headphones, keep one earbud out so you can hear race instructions.

Race Time Limit

The race has a strict 2-hour time limit.


Course Markers

Visible mile markers will be positioned along the course.


Photography

An official race photographer raceshots.net will be on the course and at the finish line.


Finish Line

  • Keep moving after you cross the finish line.
  • Results will be posted onsite and on the official website.
  • A finisher’s medal will be awarded just outside the finish chute to all finishers.

Post-Race Party

Stick around after your event to cheer for your fellow runners and walkers.

Enjoy a post-race party in the park, featuring food, fun, and entertainment!

  • Course: Flat and scenic on the Kemah Boardwalk, with a challenging bridge crossing over to Seabrook and back. Perfect for both seasoned runners and newcomers!
  • Time Limit: 2 hours (strictly enforced)

Important Race Day Notes

  • Pets and Baby Strollers:

  • Weather Advisory: The race will proceed rain or shine, so please come prepared for the weather. Cancellations will be announced only if conditions are unsafe.

  • If you lose your bib or forget it, there will be a $10 charge for a replacement bib.
  • Bib Placement: All participants must wear their bib on the front of their shirt, visible to course officials.
  • Do not bend or fold your bib as this can interfere with timing accuracy.
  • Bibs are non-transferable. Only registered participants may wear their assigned bib.

Packet Pickup and Race Day Registration

  • Packet Pickup: Pick up your race packet on race day, beginning at 6:00 AM.
  • Race Day Registration: Available if slots remain open; however, please note that T-shirt size and availability may be limited if you register after August 15.

Race Safety Guidelines

Your safety is our top priority. Please follow the directions of course officials and respect race guidelines. Aid stations will be available along the route for hydration.

Texas Bridge Series

The Texas Bridge Series is a series of three races, over three iconic Texas bridges in the greater Houston area. Run all three Bridge races – the Kemah Bridge (Toughest 10K) in September, the Galveston Causeway (The Toughest 10K Galveston) in October, and the Fred Hartman Bridge (La Porte Half Marathon) in November, and you will get a commemorative special item!

There are no refunds or rainchecks if you miss a race.
To qualify for the Texas Bridge Series commemorative item, the same runner must finish all races.

Use the all-in-one registration to register for the Toughest 10K Kemah, the Toughest 10K Galveston, and the La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon on one form and save money versus signing up for each race individually!

Promo codes can be used for individual races but cannot be used for the Texas Bridge Series Bundle as race is heavily discounted.

VIRTUAL RACE INFORMATION & RULES

 Toughest 10K Kemah – Sunday, September 20, 2026
Deadline to switch to Virtual: September 13, 2026

  • You must register as Virtual or request a change from Live to Virtual by the deadlines above.
  • If you choose to switch to virtual after the September 13th deadline it will be $25.00 this will include shipping of virtual items.
  • Shirts are not guaranteed for registrations after the shirt cut-off date.
  • You may complete your Virtual race any time after registering and up to 2 weeks after race day.
  • You may run on any safe course (track, safe neighborhood streets, treadmill, etc.).
  • Race packets will be available at in-person packet pick-up. Virtual runners should arrange for their packet to be collected.
  • Prefer shipping? Packets (shirt, medal, bib) can be mailed for a $10 shipping fee. Items will be mailed about two weeks after race day.  This will be available as an add on upon registration.
  • Please Submit your results to this link no later then 14 days after the race.  You can submit them HERE
  • No refunds, bib transfers, or deferrals are allowed for Virtual registrations.
  • Virtual results are used only for Series Finisher tracking and Legacy status. Do not qualify for awards (e.g., age group awards).
  • Legacy status for the Texas Bridge Series will not be affected if you participate Virtual.
