About 20th Annual Get Ready! Get Set! Get Fit! 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Walk
Roads close at 8 a.m., warm-up is at 8:15 a.m. and 5K begins at 8:30 a.m.
Novice or advanced runners of all ages are invited to attend the 20th Annual Get Ready! Get Set! Get Fit! 5K Run/Walk and One-Mile Walk to support older adult health and fitness by raising much-needed funds for County senior exercise classes and fitness centers.
Celebrate National Senior Center Month, National Falls Prevention Day and Active Aging Week at this event. The One-Mile Fun Walk is perfect for our youngest and oldest participants. The 5K Race will be held on CCBC Essex campus, will be timed and professionally managed by Charm City Run, and will include a virtual component. Free fall prevention and health and fitness screenings will be available, as well as vendor tables and displays.
Parking: 5K runners and walkers park in Lot 1; one-mile walkers park in Lot 2.
The entirety of the route will be on the campus of CCBC Essex. For safety reasons, the race course is closed to animals, bikes, skaters and baby joggers or strollers. The event will be held rain or shine.
Participants Will Receive:
- A complimentary, technical, long sleeve, moisture-wicking t-shirt (Guaranteed up to the first 1,100 registered. Sizes and availability are not guaranteed for day-of-race registration.)
- Water on the course and at the finish line
- Post-race refreshments
- Entry into door prize drawings and Fitness Pays VISA gift cards, one card for $200 and three cards for $100 each, sponsored by Van Dyke and Bacon Shoes. Must be present to win.
Event Schedule:
On race day, 5K runners and walkers will park in lot 1; one-mile walkers will park in lot 2.
- 6:30 a.m.—Registration opens, sponsor and exhibitor set-up
- 7:30 a.m.—Health and fitness screenings, massages
- 8 a.m.—Event begins, race course roads close to the public
- 8:15 a.m.—Warm-up (on your own)
- 8:30 a.m.—5K race begins
- 8:35 a.m.—One-mile walk begins in front of the Wellness and Athletic Center
- 9:45 a.m.—Awards ceremony
- 11 a.m.—Event ends

Participants must be present to claim medals. Medals will be presented for:
- The fastest three male and female 5K finishers
- The top two male and female runners in all age categories
The age categories include:
- 15 and under
- 16 to 19
- 20 to 29
- 30 to 39
- 40 to 49
- 50 to 59
- 60 to 69
- 70 to 74
- 75 to 79
- 80 to 84
- 85 to 89
- 90 and over
There are no medals for participants of the virtual run.
Prizes:
Participants must be present to claim medals and door prizes.
Door Prizes:
Random door prizes will be awarded, including four Fitness Pays VISA gift cards, worth $200 (1 count) and $100 (3 count), sponsored by Van Dyke and Bacon Shoes.
About The Virtual Race:
We have created a virtual race option for those who would like to participate, but are not local or are unable to attend the race in person.
1, Register for the virtual event. Be sure to sign up for text or emails.
2, Pick up your race shirt at packet pickup on Friday, September 18 at Bykota Senior Center, 611 Central Avenue, Towson, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can also pick up your shirt post-race at any senior center. To coordinate pick up at a senior center, email sbrooks@baltimorecountymd.gov.
3. You will receive a text or email when the race begins on Sunday, September 20.
4. Run your race and submit your results by text message, email or by providing your results to Charm City Run by Sunday, September 27, at 11:59 p.m. eastern time. Results update in real time as people submit their race times. Be sure to take photos and share on our photo page.
5. Race results are posted on our virtual results page.
6. Virtual race performances are not eligible for the event awards.

Safety of participants, volunteers, sponsors and staff is of utmost importance to the Department of Aging and Charm City Run. We are committed to following all local, state, national and CDC guidelines at the Get Ready! Get Set! Get Fit! 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Walk. Charm City Run has created effective race day COVID-19 protocols and procedures. While guidelines and health metrics continue to evolve, we are prepared with procedures that may include, but are not limited to: caps on participation consistent with outdoor gathering guidelines; contactless packet pickup; mandatory mask wearing for participants, volunteers and staff at all times (with the exception of when actively participating in the race); minimal spectators; social distancing and small group wave starts for participants; sanitizer stations throughout the event space; elimination of bag check and shirt exchanges; sealed grab-and-go water bottles at water stops; individually wrapped post-race snacks.
