Brian Waterbury Memorial Rock to Pier Run

Run the Coast. Honor a Legacy. Experience the Central Coast at its Best!

Join us on Saturday, July 17, 2027, for the 57th annual Brian Waterbury Memorial Rock to Pier Fun Run and the 13th annual Rock’n Around the Pier Half Marathon, starting at 8:00 AM.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Central Coast, both events begin at Morro Rock and take runners along the shoreline for an unforgettable beach-running experience.

Event Options
Rock to Pier Fun Run (6 miles)
Run from Morro Rock to the iconic Cayucos Pier, finishing right at the pier. This beach run is open to all ages and abilities—perfect for seasoned runners and first-timers alike.

Rock’n Around the Pier Half Marathon
A challenging and scenic out-and-back course starting at Morro Rock, heading to the Cayucos Pier, and returning south. At mile 10.5, runners will detour through Cloisters Park before finishing back at Morro Rock.
Course closes at 12:00 PM.

Rock to Pier Pre-Packet Pickup

Join us on Friday, July 16, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Morro Bay Community Center for pre-packet pickup for the Rock to Pier Run & Half Marathon.

Participants are encouraged to pick up their race packet the day before the event to avoid race-day lines. Your packet will include your race bib, timing chip (if applicable), event information, and any participant giveaways.

Staff will be available throughout the afternoon and evening to assist with packet pickup and answer any last-minute questions. We look forward to seeing you and getting you ready for race day!

Bus transportation provided from Cayucos Pier back to Morro Rock for Rock to Pier participants
Parking is limited in Cayucos; ample parking available at Morro Rock (arrive early!)

Dogs are not allowed on the course due to Snowy Plover nesting season

Come celebrate tradition, community, and coastal beauty in one of California’s most unique running events. Whether you’re racing for a personal best or soaking in the scenery, this is a run you won’t forget!

Age Groups: 1-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+

Awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in both Male/Female

The 2026 event offers 10K Equivalent (not exactly 10K) Run, half-marathon, and a Virtual Run for those who want to participate from an off-site location.

Morro Bay Recreation will be hosting packet pick-up on Friday July 16, the day prior to the race. Packet pick-up will be hosted from 3 pm to 7:00 pm.

DAY OF:

Morro Bay Recreation will also have registration tables available for packet pick-up the morning of the race. Runners can collect their packet starting at 7:00a.m. at the Morro Rock parking lot.

Sausage patties (or vegetarian sausage patties), pancakes, juice, coffee, and fruit.
