We’re excited to introduce the Eagle Kids Splash and Dash, a brand‑new youth event added to Eagle in the Sun lineup. Designed for ages 6–13, this fast‑paced, confidence‑building race features a 100‑meter swim followed by a 1K run. It’s the perfect way for young athletes to challenge themselves, experience multisport racing, and feel the thrill of crossing the finish line under the lights. Whether they’re brand‑new to racing or already love being active, our Eagle Kids Splash and Dash is all about fun, safety, and celebrating every child’s effort.

Eagle Kids Splash and Dash is participatory only.

EAGLE IN THE SUN TRIATHLON

El Paso's premier multisport event, Eagle in the Sun Triathlon has introduced thousands to their first triathlon. Now entering its 16th year, the race is a favorite for new and experienced athletes alike and welcomes relay teams in addition to individual competitors.

Eagle in the Sun Triathlon begins with a 400-meter swim in a 50-meter pool. Participants then ride on a mostly flat 12-mile out-and-back bike on the Border Highway and run 5K run on the Playa Drain Trail. 

First 600 participants guaranteed to receive a moisture-wicking race shirt, athlete bag, water bottle and swim cap. All participants will receive post-race snacks and drinks, an interactive race day Expo, chip timing, and more! Finisher medals for all participants!

  • SATURDAY, September 19th, 10am - 1pm - Location to be announced.
    **PACKETS  - Every athlete must pick up his or her own race packet. Packet pick-up will require photo proof of identity (driver’s license, passport, etc.) and USAT Membership Card.

**No race day registration or packet pick-up.**

Eagle in the Sun Triathlon and Eagle Kids Splash and Dash are USAT Sanctioned; USAT rules apply.  All athletes must be members of USA Triathlon to compete. If you do not have an annual USA Triathlon membership, you can purchase a one-event membership during registration. The cost is $14 for individuals and $9 per athlete for relay teams.

Eagle Kids also require a USAT Membership.

USAT offers two Youth Membership options — Youth Digital ($10) or Youth Premier ($30).

Athletes must be 12 years old or older to compete in the individual Triathlon or Aquabike category. Children under 12 may participate as swimmers or runners on relay teams, but they may NOT participate in the cycling portion of the triathlon.  The minimum age is 6 years of age as of December 31, 2026. 

Remember - Your race age is how old you will be on December 31, 2026.

Men who weigh 220 lbs. or more can compete against other men in their age group and against other men who weigh 220 lbs. or more ("Clydesdales"). Men who weigh under 220 lbs. do not qualify to race in the Clydesdale division.

Women who weigh 165 lbs. or more can compete against other women in their age group and against other women who weigh 165 lbs. or more ("Athenas"). Women who weigh under 165 lbs. do not qualify to race in the Athena division.

During the registration process you will be able to check a box if you wish to be identified as a Athena or Clydesdale athlete. 

Relay teams may consist of 2 or 3 persons who together complete the entire triathlon (swim-bike-run).  The first team member to sign up creates a team with a team name that other team members can join.

Aquabike participants will swim 400 meters then bike 12 miles.  Their time will end when they return to transition from the bike portion, and they have the option to walk to the FINISH Inflatable to cross the finish line and get their finisher medal.

Individual Triathlon / Awards go to the Top Male Overall and Top Female Overall.

First through third place will be awarded to males and females in each of the following categories: 14 & under (Minimum Age 6), 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+.

First through third place will also be awarded to Clydesdales (Males 220+ lbs.) Under 39, Clydesdales 40+, Athenas (Females 165+ lbs.) Under 39, Athenas 40+.

Aquabike / Awards go to the top 3 male and top 3 female competitors.

Bike-run / Awards go to the top 3 male and top 3 female competitors.

Relays / Awards go to the top 3 teams in each of the 2-person Relay and 3-person Relay divisions. 

Eagle Kids Splash and Dash is a participatory race, no awards are given in this race.

Please note that all race registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable. This policy is in place to ensure fairness and consistency for all participants and to support the planning and logistics of the event.

All individual participants and relay teams will be assigned start times based on their swim times.  Athletes must update their swim times by September 13th by 10:00pm to be included in the first wave of participants.  

To update your swim time, login to Run Sign Up, click on My Profile, Go to Upcoming Events, Click on Eagle in the Sun, Click on Manage Registration.

On Top Bar - Click on Questions.  Scroll down to Update Swim Time.  Enter your most recent time for the 400 meters swim. Click on Update Responses. Swim time has been updated.

Eagle in the Sun is a USAT Sanctioned event.  Based on the USA Triathlon 2026 Multisport Competition Rules, pets, strollers, roller blades, and/or roller skates are not allowed on the race course (swim, bike, run).
