NEMS Alcorn State Alumni Race for Scholars 5K

The Northeast MS Alcorn State 5K Run for Scholars' mission is to raise funds to provide scholarships for students from Northeast MS to attend Alcorn State University. Your support will ensure these students will have the additional funds needed to attend college. 

Many of these students are first generation students entering college and will need as much support from you as possible. Let’s Make It Happen!

In addition, there will be a Health and Wellness Fair held in conjunction with 5K Run at Fair Park. We intend to have the following 1. Blood Drive, 2. Diabetes, Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Screening, 3. COVID Screening and Vaccinations.

The virtual race option is for those who are not able to participate in person. We are pleased to offer RACEJOY to monitor our virtual race. Separate results will be provided for virtual runners. Please note, due to the nature of virtual results being reliant on dependable cell service and honesty, there will be no awards for virtual participants. Results are for recognition only. NEMS Alcorn State Alumni Race for Scholars 5K will use ChronoTrack timing technology. To get an official race time and be included in results, participants MUST wear a bib number with timing device on front of body so they can be validated at the finish on camera.  (see below) The B-Tag technology allows for precision and timing accuracy in road racing performance.

Q: Do I have to be in a certain city/state to do this event?
A: Anyone can run/walk the VIRTUAL NEMS Alcorn State 5K Run for Scholars  wherever you are, on your time between Saturday 06/14/2025 - Saturday 6/21/2025. This is great way for families and friends to stay active together, even if you don't live close to each other.  However, if you are registered for the In-person 5K, you will need to toe the "Start Line" at Fair Park in Tupelo, MS on Saturday June 21st @ 7:15 AM.
 
Q: Do I have to run or can I walk?
A: You can run, walk, runwalk ... as long as you are purposefully moving and logging miles, it counts.
 
Q: Do I have to complete the 5K Virtual distance at one time?
A: Yes, since this is a "timed" event, you will need to complete the full  5k during one activity ... not multiple combined activities.
 
Q: Do I have to put in my miles outside?
A: Preferably you will be able to go outside so you can use our Live GPS tracking app, RaceJoy. See RaceJoy "How To" (click here). but if you need to complete your miles inside (on a treadmill, at the gym, etc.) that will be possible with the alternate reporting option.
 
Q: How do I record my miles/time?
A: The easiest and best way will be to utilize the RaceJoy app (click here)  ... you simply hit start on the app and it will register your time in results when you complete the 5K distance.  But, if you are unable to carry your phone; will be in a location with poor cell service; or need to complete your miles inside or on a treadmill, then there will be alternate ways to report your time.  You can upload directly to the RunSignUp system.  Just go to the Results Tab (click here)  and choose "Submit Virtual Results" beginning Saturday April 14th through Saturday April 21th. Virtual results will be presented in a format similar to in person results, but for recognition only, no age group awards.
