When: April 19th, 2026 - 11:00 AM

How: This year there are two ways to participate:

  • Walk with us in person at McKee Farms Park.
  • Walk in your own neighborhood and connect with us virtually.

Where: McKee Farms Park - Fitchburg, WI

Why:  According to the CDC, 1 in 31 children are diagnosed with Autism. These families need access to information, resources, and support from others who have shared life experiences. Our mission at the Autism Society of Wisconsin is to improve the lives of those impacted by Autism across their lifespan. We do this by providing information, resources, and support, while raising awareness and acceptance in our community.

As always, all money raised stays local and provides support, education and activities for those on the spectrum and their families.

FAQ

Here are some answers to our most frequently asked questions.

If you do not find the answer to your question here, please reach out to us via email or call our office.

1. My child is under the age of 2, but I would like for them to have a t-shirt. How can I make this happen?

  • If you are registering a child under the age of two and you would like for them to still receive an official Walk t-shirt, you will need to register them as an older child. In order to do this, you will need to change the birth year you use when registering your child to make them older than three years old. Note: You will have to pay the registration fee for a child aged 3-17 as well.

2. We have many family members out of state that plan to walk with us virtually on April 19th. Is there a way for them to still receive t-shirts?

  • We love that you have family members that want to support you outside of our local area! If they would like to receive t-shirts, the best option would be to have them register for our McKee Walk instead of the virtual option. Their team captain can pick-up all of the t-shirts at our walk and arrange for delivery/shipping of them. Unfortunately, due to t-shirt production and shipping times, we do not have a way to get these t-shirts to the team captains prior to our walk or shipped directly to these participants. Therefore, they will not have their t-shirts by April 19th.

3. How do I link my Facebook Fundraiser to my Walk fundraising page?

  • Facebook fundraisers are a great way to meet your fundraising goals! In order for your Facebook Fundraiser to be linked directly to your fundraising page, you will want to make sure you create your Facebook Fundraiser through your RunSignup fundraising page. When creating your fundraising profile, RunSignup will prompt you to create your Facebook fundraiser and you will then follow the steps to link your personal Facebook account.

Fundraising Tips

We want to make this experience easy and successful for you. Perhaps you have never participated in a fundraiser before or maybe you are nervous about asking for donations. Don’t worry. The people who care about you will respond to you because it is a cause you care about. You just need to give them the opportunity to support you.

Let’s get started!

Personalize Your Fundraising Page

Personalize your fundraising page by uploading a profile photo and sharing your personal photos and videos. Tell your potential donors why you are getting involved. Share your personal connection to Autism with them. Remember, your friends and family are interested in the cause, but it is you and your story they are primarily interested in.

Set a Goal and Deadlines

Goals lead to results – when your supporters see what you are trying to achieve, they’ll be motivated to help you reach your goal. Always make sure to provide a deadline to your donors as well.  They’ll be motivated to act quickly if they must meet a deadline. Follow-up with your friends that are slower to respond. Many people may want to donate, but if they are busy they may just forget.

Use Social Media to reach more people. Highlight your participation in One Walk, Big Strides for Autism and ask for support.

  • Always include your personal fundraising page link.
  • Post regularly and often. Messages can quickly get missed with everyone sharing their own statuses.
  • Include pictures and videos
  • Don’t forget to add #OneWalkBigStridesForAutism on your posts.
  • Remind everyone that we are a 501c3 charity and that all money raised stays local to help individuals affected by Autism in Wisconsin.

Pledge forms: If you like to do things the old fashion way you can print out a pledge form and mail it in along with the checks you have collected to Autism Society of Wisconsin, 437 S. Yellowstone Dr. Suite 219,  Madison, WI 53719. Pledge forms are available here.

We find that those who approach their family and friends for support are often the most successful fundraisers. Your supporters will want to help you because the cause is important to you! Don’t forget that people give because they are asked!
