FAQ's
Who the heck is Ed?
Ed is Education. We all know Ed, and Ed needs our support. Running With Ed is a major community-focused fundraiser put on by the Park City Education Foundation.
Running with Ed is a 28.2-mile team relay foot race run in Park City. Teams of 1-8 people (you choose) take turns running segments of the course, from short and easy to long and challenging. All proceeds go directly to the Park City Education Foundation, supporting local public schools.
Where does the money go?
Every dollar raised supports programs in Park City schools that traditional funding doesn’t cover, such as teacher grants, STEM programs, and wellness initiatives.
What’s the vibe like?
Think fun, festive, and full of community spirit! Expect scenic views, creative team costumes, high-fives at every exchange point, and a celebratory finish line party. Theme costumes are encouraged for your team, but not required.
Registration
How do I sign up?
Registration opens Monday, March 16th. Early registration from March 16-March 31 will be the lowest available price at $100/person. On April 1st, the price jumps to $150/person, and on May 1st, the price jumps again to $200/person.
Note: there are reduced prices for minors (always $50, for educators (free for those in PCSD, $50 for all others) and scholarship opportunities to run for free.
How do teams work?
You can have anywhere between 1-8 people on your team to complete the 8 legs of the race. If you have more than 8 people interested, you can work towards creating two teams.
The first person to register will create your team name. They’ll share it with you, and when you register you simply join that team from an option during registration.
Teams can be any size from a solo runner (great way to do a marathon with support) to 8 people, one for each leg. Who does which leg(s) is totally up to you and can be decided the day of if you want, you never have to register that info. Feel free to run together or bring a registered kid along too.
Can kids participate?
Absolutely! RWE is family-friendly, and kids are welcome to join teams as a registered runner (at a discounted rate) or cheer from the sidelines.
About the running
Wait, is it really a race?
Up to you! Neither the legs nor the total distance are timed by us. But, if you want a friendly competition with another team or set a Strava segment, go for it.
Do I have to be a “runner” to participate?
Not at all! Our relay segments vary in distance and difficulty, so there’s something for everyone—from casual walkers to seasoned athletes. Many people walk or run a single leg with friends, while others do several in a row to match their ability.
How long are the relay race legs?
They vary in length from 1.3 to 5.7 miles. This means teams can have a wide range of runners – ultra marathoners to beginners as well as walkers, skippers..whatever it takes to complete the legs on foot!
How does the relay work?
Each team is responsible for completing all race segments, handing off a baton from one teammate to the next at designated exchange points. Your personal support vehicle drives your team, food and items to the next leg along the set route. Along the way we encourage cowbells and screaming while you pass the runners on the road during their leg.
Everyone will start and finish at the Basin Rec Fieldhouse in Kimball Junction after doing one big loop around Park City. You will be assigned your start time about a week prior to the event, but plan on it roughly between 8-9:30am.
What should I bring on race day?
Pack essentials like water, snacks, sunscreen, and comfortable running gear. Your support vehicle should also carry extra supplies for the team.
How Fundraising Works
Do I have to fundraise to run?
You are not required to fundraise. Every participant is encouraged to set a fundraising goal. Some kids raise $50-75, while others—and many adults—have raised thousands of dollars! Every dollar counts and goes directly toward enhancing Park City’s schools. Keep in mind there is an impressive prize table at the finish party for our top 20 fundraisers.
Upon signup, we will automatically create your personal fundraising page to share. More on that below.
Can I fundraise but not run?
We have some go-getters in this town, and yes if you are good at asking for money (thank you) but don’t want to run, you can do that.
- You will still sign-up as a participant so you are in our system like everyone else.
- You will then get your fundraising page and link, like everyone else.
- Once you reach $500 in fundraising we will automatically refund your registration amount (this applies to everyone who registers), and you can continue to fundraise.
- If you don't hit the $500 by the fundraising deadline, you will not be refunded the registration amount.
How does fundraising work?
Once you register for Running with Ed, you’ll receive a secure, personalized fundraising link through our platform powered by Run Sign Up. Modify your picture, story and dollar amount goal if you want.
Next, share your link via text, email or social media. All donations will be made securely and directly on Run Signup Platform. There is no need for you to collect cash, checks or Venmo.
Be sure to check the leaderboard and prize list to see how you’re stacking up.
Do I fundraise by myself or as a team?
You are your own individual fundraiser. Each participant gets a page, and each page qualifies for prizes. If you have multiple kids for example, they can join forces on one page, and choose a single prize based on the total amount raised, or they can each run their own fundraiser to see how they do individually.
What about the prizes?
Glad you asked. Thanks to our generous sponsors, we have an incredible selection of prizes for the top 20 fundraisers overall. These prizes are picked up on race day during the post-race party. Prizes have included everything from luxury experiences like skiing and golf to outdoor gear and gift certificates.
How do I track my progress?
Your personal fundraising page includes a tracker that updates in real time. You can also check the leaderboard on runningwithed.com to see where you rank among other participants and teams.
More Stuff
Do people dress up?
Yes! We are awarding 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes for Best Team Theme – so work on your costumes and car to go with your Team Name. They aren’t required, but highly encouraged and you may feel left out without one. This is not the NYC Marathon.
Is there water and food on course?
Water & snacks are available at every exchange location. Closer to race day, we will determine if it is possible and necessary to add any water stations on-course.
Do we meet up with other teams?
Yes! You are with your team and other teams all day. There will also be a gathering point, very close to the finish line, where you can meet up with your team members to cross the finish line together.
What's the after party like? Is there food?
Yes, we are excited to return to the Basin Recreation Field house for a great Finish Line Party! We will have music, games for the kids, bounce houses, food, and a beer garden. This will be a rockin’ party! In addition, every exchange site is a party!
Can I run solo or duo?
Yes you can! It's actually a good way to do it with all the support on course, just raise money too!
Who can run?
Anyone! The race is open to everyone from Park City to Logan to Moab. You don’t have to live in Park City to take part! If you don’t want to run, join us as a volunteer, or join us at the rockin’ Finish Party!
Does this count this towards my PCSD school for the Park City Mountain Challenge Grant?
Yes! Running with Ed racers get 1 point, towards the school of their choice.
Can I bring my dog?
No. For everyone’s safety, please leave your dog at home. Dogs are not allowed in the Basin Rec field house either as we will be serving food.
How can I volunteer or sponsor?
If running isn’t your thing, we’d love your support as a volunteer or sponsor. Visit our Volunteer page to learn more.
I have more questions. Who can I contact?
Feel free to reach out to us at runningwithed@gmail.com. We’d love to hear from you!

Real Stories To Help You Fundraise
Below are a few real stories of how the Park City Education Foundation(PCEF) has made an impact. We encourage you to read these and copy/paste your favorite story when you’re fundraising. Include it in your social media post or add it to your fundraising page, email or personal requests for donations.
The Parking Lot Teacher
During the earliest months of COVID, teachers and students were directly impacted when transitioning to remote learning. When transitioning to Zoom for class everyday one teacher continued teaching despite not having strong enough wifi at home to host class. She sat in her car, in the school parking lot everyday, just to get enough wifi to teach virtually - in the cold Park City spring. She learned about PCEF’s Express Grants, and requested a wifi hotspot. PCEF issued an express grant that week and bought her a wireless hotspot powerful enough to use at her home. This type of express funding wouldn’t come from anywhere else that quickly, if it weren’t for PCEF and donors like you.
Studying Aviation and Building Houses
The PCEF invests heavily each year in STEM projects, including our groundbreaking elementary coding program and popular MakerSpaces. These career and technical education (CTE) programs teach students to think in non-linear ways, take risks, collaborate, and learn through trial and error. All of which make them better prepared for the future and potentially secure the highest paying jobs.
Preschool for All
Studies show quality, affordable preschool increases high school graduation rates, years of college completed, and lifetime earned income. Not only that, but every dollar PCEF invests in preschool provides a $13 return - because when the achievement gap is addressed before kindergarten, it limits the need for expensive interventions in early elementary years.
PCEF donors support 220 three and four-year-olds in PCSD Preschool. “I loved preschool! I get a happy feeling when I think of it. We got to do centers and there was a voting group where you got to choose what you want to do.” — Clark Pitkin, 2nd grader at McPolin Elementary School
The Power of Afterschool
Did you know PCEF funds directly support After School for programs? 400 PCSD students are reached by the Aftersschool Program, which provides a safe, supervised, affordable place for kids to go after the final bell rings. Studies show that by 6th grade, children from families with income challenges have 6,000 fewer hours of enrichment time compared to peers. Thanks to your donations, Afterschool is a tool the community can utilize to close that gap here in Park City.
So Many More Stories
You can find dozens of stories about the hundreds of ways your support impacts our students, educators and schools at the PCEF website, pcef4kids.org.
