Viking Relays & Races

Welcome to the Annual Viking Relays & Races!

This event will take place at South Mastick park in the Rocky River Reservation.

The Viking Relays & Races are composed of the following events:

• 6 Hour Run

• 6 Hour Relay

• 3 Hour Run

• 4 Mile Relay

• 4 Mile Run

Dogs and Strollers are not allowed on the course.

 

Schedule & Start Times:

Registration and Packet Pickup - 5:30am

6 Hour Run/Relay & 3 Hour Run Start - 6:00am

4 Mile Run/Relay Start - 9:30am

Awards - 11:00am

Distances:

2x2 Mile Relay (Runners will complete 1 loop on the 2 mile loop course)

4 Mile Run (Runners will complete 2 loops on the 2 mile loop course)

6 Hour Run/Relay & 3 Hour Run (Runners will complete 2 loops during the allocated times. Runners are allowed to complete as many laps as they can during the allocated times. All runners can choose to finish earlier than the allocated and by doing so, will no longer be able to complete more laps)

 

Timing Method/Bibs:

All events will be chipped time. For the non relay events, timing chips will be attached to the back of the race bibs. For relay events, timing chips are located inside the race batons. All batons must be returned at the completion of the race.

All registered participants will receive a bib number and timing tag that must be worn on race day. Please do not alter the bib in any way.

The bib must be visible and worn on the front, outer most article of clothing the entire race. BibTag Timing chips will be adhered to the back of your bib.

Bib numbers and tags are non-transferable and must be worn by the registrant to whom they have been assigned.

About the Race

When does the race begin?
The race will begin at 8:30AM on Saturday November 2nd, 2024.

 

Where does the race begin?
Race starts and finishes at the South Mastick - Cottonwood Picnic Pavilion.

 

When does race day registration/packet pick-up begin?
Race day registration and packet pick-up will begin at 7:30AM.

 

Can my friend join my relay team after I registered?

Yes, all you have to do is share the relay name and optional password and you can have a team.

 

What if I sign up for a team on my own and don't have a teammate?

If there are any teams that have only 1 person, we will combine teams.

Results and Awards

How is this race timed?
This race is an officially timed event using MyLaps BibTag Timing. Timing chips are attached directly to the back of your bib number and are to remain adhered for the duration of the event. You do not need to return your timing chip after the race.

 

Where can I see my results?

Results will be posted directly after the race on our website. Locate the race and click the ‘Results’ link or on the home page, go to the Race Results tab.  You may need to refresh your browser to view.

 

When will the results be posted?
The results will be posted, barring any issues, throughout the morning.
You may also opt in during registration to have results emailed and/or texted to you!

 

What do I do if my results are incorrect or missing?
After the results have been officially posted, please contact Grayson at gradvansky@hermescleveland.com

 

I could not pick up my award on race day, how can I get my award?
There are two additional ways to get your award: You can pick up the awards at the Hermes office located at 2425 West 11th Street, Suite #2 , Cleveland, OH 44113
We can send your award to the next Hermes race you plan to run. Contact Grayson Radvansky at gradvansky@hermescleveland.com to make arrangements.
We do NOT mail awards
Awards can be claimed for up to 30 days after the race.

 
 

Race Day Logistics and Information

Where can I park the morning of the race?
There is limited parking down in the South Mastick parking lot so come early!

 

Am I able to bring my dog or a stroller to the race?
No, since this is a team relay race, there will not be any dogs or strollers as part of the race.

 

 
Pre-Race Day Packet Pick Up

If I am unable to attend and I have already registered, can I still get my t-shirt?
Yes, you can pick up your shirt at the packet pickup location prior to the race – we do not mail shirts.

There will be packet pick up the day before, November 1st at the Hermes office from 11-2.

What is the weather typically like at this race?

What should I bring to the race?
While this depends on personal preference, a typical race packing list includes your running shoes, spare shoes/socks in case of inclement weather, layers or a change of clothes, and a watch.

 

How is the course- does it have many hills?
For the most part the course is flat. Half of the race will be on the all purpose pavement, while the other half will be on the dirt bridle trail.

 

For how long will the course be open?
The course will stay open until about an hour after the race start time. Ultimately the police decide when to close the course for everyone’s safety.

Refunds and Transfers:
Sorry, but all entries are non-refundable. Once we’ve received and processed your entry, you will not receive a refund, you may not give or sell your race number to other people, and entry fees are not transferable to the next year’s race or any other race.

If you were unable to attend, you can pick up your shirt at the packet pickup  prior to the race from our office or after the race – we do not mail shirts. Please call the office ahead of time to let us know that you are coming.
